After 8-1/2 years, I actually have a mod update for the Type S!
Sunday afternoon, we had a great bunch of guys over to my house for beers, pizza and to do a little modding to a ASM Type S.
First, the roster of guys doing the "heavy lifting"....
Steven
swoosh
DiZlAoSbOiSoFlY
SilverSVT
OakTre
mccollins23
Outlawd
Second-all these guys ROCK! They did outstanding work. I couldn't have done it without them.
Our goal-change these out (from AckTL05).....
and also change brake pads on all 3 corners....PLUS, paint all brakes RED.
We started with this.....
We then went to this.....
New tails are in!
And finally finished!
Then we turned our attention to the brakes and calipers....
Brembos are sanded down....
And painted....
And the finished product!
Fronts....
And rears.....
We had difficulty bleeding the Brembos. We didn't know that there was a bleeder on the outside AND the inside. At the end of the day, it was all done and looking good.
But wait....we're not done yet. Spacers were ordered tonight! 15's and 20's are on the way....
THEN..I'm really done modding.....no, really-I'm done! Honest....LOL.

Nice work Steven! I love the red theme you have going, especially since it's on a Type-S, it all flows nicely. P.S. I think you're lying about the mods, you know there's always more to do

I don't think I'm going to do the black roof....but maybe a carbon fiber roof.....Hmmmm.
Wow, thanks Brandon-that's quite a compliment. Especially with all the fantastic TL's and Type S cars on the site.
You're right-I'll shoot some tomorrow for you!
God, I hope not UD. I've got to stop this madness sometime....
Yes, H&R Springs for the drop.

Buddy, thank you and all the guys for being there for me. We absolutely need rolling shots.

^^^ I know Jaime. Please come over here and smack me....
Honestly, after the spacers, I really can't think of anything else I want to do to this car. It's approaching 60,000 miles.

^^^ Sorry Matt, I guess you can't please everyone.
If you're talking about the placement of the Type S badge on the side of the car, hey, if it's good enough for Ferrari, it's good enough for me. That's actually where I got the idea!

No worries, Kro. I know it's a controversial addition/mod. I love it-the guys yesterday liked it too. Maybe it looks better in person than in a photo.
I'll take some beauty shots tomorrow!

Steve, you and I both know damn well you are not done modding!!! I'm gonna talk you into that ASPEC kit until I'm blue in the face.
Had a great time hanging/helping/cussing brakes yesterday. That was maybe our biggest get together since the national meet last year (pretty lame on our part). We need to do this more often. If the paint on your calipers comes off, just let me know and we can redo them if you want.

Wow those brake calipers came out very good. I'm thinking about doing my calipers and under hood plastic covers in gloss black to match my NBP because of you now. What grit did you use to sand it down, what paint materials (primer, clear coat?) How many layers of each? Step by step instructions available?? It looks.... GOOD!!

I like how you have the "TL Type-S" badges inside your trunk lid! Also, is it just me or have you given your exhaust tips some special attention? They look quite clean.

Viet, we did about 4 coats of spray paint on the calipers. And a couple coats of clear. I'm not sure what grit sand paper we used, but it all came from Advance Auto Parts.
Thanks Dae, yea, the TL Type S badging is kind of cool inside the trunk lid. While the rear bumper was off, I got in there and really cleaned to tips. There was much better access to them with it off, so I took advantage of the opportunity. Bar Keepers Friend did the "trick of the tail" (title to an old Genesis song).
Silver SVT came over last night and helped me order spacers. 15's for the front and 20's for the rear. We will hopefully get them soon and have them on by next week. THEN....I'm really done.
PS: Matt (mccollins), I know you really want me to get that Aspec Kit. Yours looks so good on a WDP Type S. But for some reason, I just can't get over the "bubble-eye" around the fogs. The nose of the Type S looses it's sleekness with that thing on the front....
NOTE: The tails are from AckTL. If I remember correctly, he said that's the first time tails were done like mine. I could be wrong, but....

That many members didn't know how to properly bleed brembos?
Looks good though man. Tails are sharp with your color.

Then I found out that the base front will work on our cars, with either just a little modding like RainSupreme or Beat-Freak... did or by molding it like jptl04 did. I made my decision and ordered it within about 2 days. Now I'm sitting at home waiting for the FedEx guy to show up with it today...killing time by looking at Beat-Freak...'s photo thread.
I say go for it!

I always felt the same way, I couldn't see myself paying that much for something I wasn't sold on. As it turns out, unless you have it painted, the Type-S front isn't an option for you anymore anyway, the ASM is discontinued.

KJ-let me know how that comes out for you. I want a Base TL lip, not the Aspec!

Also, I assume you meant you want the base A-spec lip as opposed to the Type-S A-Spec lip?

I will - not sure when I'll get a chance to put it all on yet though. It is supposed to be at least 60 degrees and dry when you do the install. Hopefully it doesn't take too long to get to that around Chicago, but I don't think it's going to happen this Sunday like I would have liked.

Sorry-the OEM tails have been shipped back to AckTL to be used for someone else's future tails mod.
