Talking After 2 long months waiting, wheels finally here!!! (BWW, 56K beware)

Hey Guys,

Finally got my wheels on after 2 anguishingly long months waiting for them to be finished. First ones off the production line in this size. Sorry for the oversized pics, enjoy:

Am I the only one that thinks that those look exactly like RONJON's new rims? Not knocking the look. I think that the rims look sick! Dubs too! Whoa! Just questioning the insperation.

Ahhh...but the question remains who came first? These wheels were released sometime last summer, so definitely believe DPE was first. These were just the first set of 20's to roll off the assembly line, only available in 19's/18's beforehand.

Not exactly sure what you mean, if you're referring to the black calipers with ACURA on them, it's the standard finish on all 6spd TL's with Brembos.

Not really suppose to say, but I got them well below retail. Retail is somewhere around $4000 in brushed aluminum. The owner of the company is an aquaintance of my older brother, he donated wheels for their SEMA show car (which is showing up on 3 covers in the next couple of months) so they have a good working relationship of which I benefited from. Now that I have them on my car, I think I would have paid wholesale for them without even blinking. Been getting nothing but compliments driving around these days in sunny southern CA, even had a SL55 owner ask me where he can get himself a set. Of course I told him I could take care of him, since I'm sure money is of no issue for that guy...haha...

Superb looking wheels cadesigns02!!

Is your TL lowered or is just the 20's filling up the wheel-well??

I'm not sure if I could handle the 20's but would definitely go that style in some 18's - If I could justify that amount of cash on wheels,,, Being a family man and all

Nicely done!

PS - For the love of God, stay away from the curb man!!!!!!

Car looks great! DPE are really nice wheels. Good choice, what tire size are you running?

No offense to RonJon, but their rims look like a ripped HRE design. There is one style in particular that is a dead ringer. I think its the 547 model or something across those lines.

BTW, nice rims. Are you rubbing at all with the 20s (particularly in the back?)

Tire size is 245/35/20 and I'm lowered on Tein SS Coilovers as my signature indicates, only way to get the even look between the front/rear wheel wells. Both wheels are 20x8.5, but the front has a high disc and different offset to clear the Brembos. It's REAL tight though, I dont' think I have more than 3-4 mm of clearance on the calipers. That's the best thing about custom wheels though, you get them EXACTLY how you want them. $4000 is retail on the 20's, but you can git it a lot cheaper. If anyone is looking for pricing send me a PM and I'll get back to you.

Ron Jon's do look good as well, but personally I think the DPE's have a little more style. For anyone who owns them, I'm sure they're nice wheels. In regards to the styling, EVERYONE has copied HRE in some way and honestly I think HRE most likely got their design from another wheel. It really doesn't matter who copied copies whom, just buy what you like. I just couldn't justify spending the money on the HRE's, as 20's w/ brushed aluminum would have easily hit $5-6K just for the wheels.

Right now I haven't got any rubbing but I also haven't loaded the car up either (only had 2 people in the car max so far). I drive real carefully too and the streets here are pretty smooth. The ride quality hasn't suffered much either compared to before the wheels. The new wheels raised the car a lot just because of the plus sizing, but the ride with the Teins at this height is pretty good. I think I might end up raising the car half an inch all the way around just to provide some more clearance, but as far as looks, I love the way the car sits right now. Regardless, it'll sit at this height for at least another month as I have to study for the my Board exams this June before I get anytime to mess around.

3-4mm of caliper clearance is plenty. 2mm is the usual recommended minimum clearance, so 3-4mm is not "REAL tight".

Looks good, though. Props for good taste.

A host of featured show cars at SEMA IAS were sitting on DPE's.

I suppose DPE's are the new hottness.

Your anthracite TL is one of my favorites that i've seen.

Very wise selection...whats your next mod?

DPE's are definitely starting to build a name for themselves out there. I've met the guys personally a several times and they're fantastic. They're true enthusiasts that love what they do. Plus, they keep releasing wheels that look great, so they should be around for awhile.

Hmmm....was thinking about getting a body kit, but I haven't seen one I liked yet. Ron Jon kit looks decent but has a lot of styling elements I don't like. OEM kit is too plain and looks too tacked on, which it is. Bodykits.org kit is fiberglass, so I don't think I'll go with that either, although the front isn't half bad. My brother wants me to go with a custom kit so he can start manufacturing but I'm not sure I really want to get into that either. Takes too long to R&D, won't have my car for close to a month, plus I don't really have a design in mind. Most likely I'll be going for some minor mods, like clear corners (which I'm still not sure I want) or pedals. Definitely won't be showing the car, just my pure enjoyment. You've got a nice show car going there, definitely stands out. Where you heading next with your car?

well, for those who compared, we spend ALOT of time with our wheels under the CNC machine, and it shows in the grooves and cuts, not like the typical cookie cutter designs that just have windows cut out and thats it. and our wheels are true 3 piece design as well.

Now that is very nice Rondog...

I went to your site and found that these are for the RL...

Will they, or more specifically do you make some that will fit an 04TL 6MT???

Me likes... Me likes...

You know looking at them that much closer yours do look a lot cleaner. The "holes" that are CNC'ed in extend to the edge of the rim unlike the DPE's and the DPE's do look simply drilled out. Great Job Ron.

I like all 3! for me it will all come down to price. Excellent design and work Ron I like how you can use the oem center cap w/ the devotions can't wait to see good (real) pics of the different finishes

also im wondering will there be a big difference in feeling w/ 19's and 18's considering road bumps? and whats a good tire size for 19's I would like the sidewall thinner than oem (235/45/17) but not too thin where i would feel every bump on the road harshly.

Same here .......they all look good with very minor differences and are all high quality wheels but for me it probably will come down to price. I know the HREs are gonna be the most expensive though. Im very picky with wheels and this is one of the few designs that i think will look good on my WDP 6MT.

HRE is the best quality hands down, you arent going to find a better wheel in 3 piece construction that will look good on the TL

So I'm guessin the 20's don't rub on the TL's? I was willing to go 19's because I thought they would rub, especially on a dropped TL. Now that I know they don't rub, I'm really considering on 20's. Black with chrome lip of course =)

It's all going to depend on how you setup your suspension (height, stiffness) and your wheels (offset, width, height). I had the offsets matched to the car to push the wheels out as far as possible yet still provide clearance for the brakes. Also, I have coilovers so I can adjust the height to whatever I want, not sure how the car sits on ASpec or other springs such as Comptech/H&R/Tein. Thanks for the comments guys, I ALSO do believe that all 3 wheels DPE/HRE/RJ look great but in the end price did it for me as well. No one could offer the style/quality/size for the price I paid. To each their own though, maybe with my next car I'll get some HRE's...hehe

From what you said about the (height, stiffness) do you know if you can adjust the stiffness on the tein basic coilovers or is that only on the SS?
