AEM intake installation on my TL-S with tons of pics and toughts

Big thanks to my cousin for the install this weekend! He did a great job. I snapped pictures most of the time while he was working hard. I was no help. The guy in some of the photos is my cousin.

In my opinion this was one of the best mods out there. The cai wasn't too expensive and the installation didn't take too long (well compared to other mods).

The sound of the car is awesome. It sounds very mean at high speed. I could feel the increase in power when I pushed it. AEM claims to increase the HP by 15 but I strongly doubt it. I think the nice growl played tricks on my mine making it feel stronger than it is. But overall, the aem cai is awesome. I got the aem thanks to AZ forums. Big upz you guys!!!

aem cai fresh out of the box

out comes the stocky

getting ready for the lift

rim and lining comes off

plenty of stock parts on the ground

some people had reported in this forum that the box from the stock intake was difficult to take off so my cousin decided to take off the fog light and housing instead of the entire bumper

minor scratches on the bottom lip

in goes the aem cai

Done!

you can check out Excelerate who is a sponsored vendor here. I purchased mines from him a few months ago and I forgot the price and had help from Rodney and a friend who works at Acura with the install.

Yea I was reading about the Bay Area meet thread at first but I already have plans for the Labor day weekend so I won't be able to make it. Maybe next time. The install took about 2.5-3hrs.

Try both positions and judge for yourself.

For me, the little performance that you might gain just wasn't worth the reduction in gas mileage for me.

Your opinion/results might be different.

I just got my CAI and tried to put it in, however, apparently there is no clear way to take out the headlight without a reference to look at. I didn't realize that I had to take off the rim/tire and didn't figure it out until I had everything apart (including the battery out), which means I couldn't pop the trunk to get the jack out.

So, I put everything back together. This is best thread I can find about a step by step installation guide, and since the search feature leaves a bit to be desired on the forum, can anyone point to me any other good guides?

Just as a heads up for anyone who will be doing the install, it can be done quicker and with less parts removal. I've seen some comments here and else where about how much had to be removed, the amount of time it took, etc.

The first intake I put on was on a friends 05 TL 6 speed. I removed the wheel and battery, but left the bumper on. Having never done one before, and with no instructions, it took about 1 hour 45 mins.

When I put my intake on my 07 TL-S 6 speed, I didn't remove the bumper or battery, and only removed the wheel because I got annoyed, though I still think in a bind you could do it w/o wheel removal. Total time was less then 1 hour 15 mins.

And no, I didn't break/destroy any of the OEM intake. It would be able to be fully installed in stock condition w/o anyone knowing it had ever been removed. And yes, the AEM intake is installed and mounted correctly, etc.

The install itself is easier if you have the proper tools, so if you only have basic tools, the above may be a little more difficult in terms of removal of items and timeframes. But I just wanted to let everyone know you can do with less removal and in better time then some posts list. Props to Silver_Surfer for all the pics, it's def better then set of instructions I saw somewhere from AEM. Car looks good man!

If you haven't figured out already, there's the stock location on the TB or further down on the CAI. It's all in the documentation

I finally got my CAI installed. Didn't have to take out the battery. Did have to remove the tire and half the bumper.

There are a couple screw/bolts on the 07 that are a pain in the ass to reach. The U-bend plastic and the box are riveted together (I don't know if they are in previous years), which it's nothing a good yank didn't fix. But I got it in.
