Adopted a 'big brother' for the TL-S

I have to say, I've loved both of my TL's, but my TL-S has been my favorite car and continues to be my daily driver. I love the dependability, consistency, technology and sleek look of my 90K+ mile TL-S and I have no intentions of selling it. After 20 years, it was time for another fun, weekend car. My last Corvette was a 1985 and I sold it in 1992, got married and had kids.

The new stable-mate....

I have a lot of fun in my 2012 Grand Sport (M6) but I still love zipping through traffic in my 2007 TL-S (A5).

Nice looking driveway you have there

When I first read through that, I thought you were comparing your Vette to a BMW M6 and your Acura to an Audi A5....must be too early and no coffee yet.

Beautiful Cyber Gray Grand Sport! Kinda funny we both had somewhat similar setups. Although I dont own either of these cars anymore im still in a Type S (08 CBP). I miss my C6 Z06 a ton and see myself getting another vette someday.

Sweet Vette! I have never been a huge fan of the stripes on the fender but it ties in great with the calipers!

RNG, very nice pair of rides!

I am SO hooked on the new C7 Stingray. Watch out in September/October. I might have a similar set-up to yours.....

Tell us more about the Grand Sport.

The Grand Sport has the 6.2l LS3 engine and has 430hp, or 436hp if it has NPP exhaust option (with exhaust valves). It uses the heavier steel frame of the base C6, but uses the wide body kit of the Z06 and can have either a targa top or convertible unlike the Z06 which is hardtop only. It also has the larger 6 piston single floating brakes of the Z06 as well. Don't quote me on the next part, but I believe that the LS3 in the grand sport is hand built unlike the base C6 LS3. It might also have the dry sump oil system from the Z06 as well.
So basically, the grand sport was made for the guys that more or less wanted Z06 looks and open air driving capabilities, but didn't necessarily need 500+HP or a race setup suspension.

Well I had an 06 Z06 and for the time I owned it the car was flawless and an absolute monster!! It's hard to put words into describing flooring that car in 2nd gear going 60mph. 505hp at 3000lbs was hands down the most incredible car I have owned.

James
Thank you all for your kind words.

James is mostly correct. The M6 Grand Sport also comes with the Dry-Sump oil pump (for 1.0G turns) and hand-built LS3 engine from Wixiom. The Grand Sport has everything the Z06 has (suspension, brakes, tires, wide-body, etc) except for the aluminum frame and the LS7. As James mentioned, the Grand Sport has the steel frame, the LS3 engine AND my targa roof comes off. The roof is not removable on the Z06 because it is required for to maintain the rigidity of the aluminum Z06 frame. I can add a supercharger, headers with a tune and be 100HP over a Z06, but would also be about ~200lbs heavier. There are positives/negatives to each car. As much as I wanted a Z06, the GS was such an amazing deal that I couldn't pass it up. The tracks we race on are shorter tracks and the GS can hold its own, because the Z06 and ZR1 don't get a chance to stretch their legs, where the GS will hold it's own in 2nd & 3rd gears. Both Z's are stronger in 1st and 4th, but get in the twisties and the GS won't be passed by either Z. Anything over a 1/4 mile in straight away and the GS will be passed by both Z's. It's give and take.

BTW - Great choice in cars, James!! Great minds think alike. [high-five]

Steven - The C7 is a seriously nice ride. I have my eye on it, but will wait a couple of years to get the bugs worked out. I do like the upgrade in technology, but still isn't the solid technology we have in the TL.

Confession time - Monday mornings are so awkward, because I drive the (Manual) Vette on the weekends and I find my self looking for the clutch in the (Automatic) TL-S while trying to start the TL without the key. HA! I must look as goofy/confused as could be!

Thanks. I have thought about lowering it and know that it would look great. Then I remember how careful I have to be in the Vette since the front air dam is about 3" off the ground. I like the looks of the lowered TL, but like the simplicity of driving it every day as it is, today. If my sons want to lower it when they are driving it, then I'll help them do it.
