According to the books the 4G would have a 19hp advantage (I think), however the 4G has a huuuuuuge weight disadvantage that it would need to overcome. I have no doubts a manual 4G would be faster, but based on those numbers now I'm kind of curious.
I traded in my manual Type S for a manual 4G. The 4G FEELS faster probably because when you take off, its immediate. There's not much if any Torque steer on the 4G. When you really get on the Type S on take off it has to settle in a bit before it gets moving. It SOUNDS faster, but the 4G feels and is a little faster. Handling is obviously no contest.
I'd be interested to see if a FWD 4G can keep pace with an auto Type S.
I wasn't really a huge fan of the 4G till I drove it in AWD manual form and they came out with the smaller beaked version in 2012.

I think the 4G got better looking over time and also with the MMC in 2012.
The 3G was pretty much a unanimous beauty from the start and everyone loved it (me too, I owned 2 of them).
I love the 4G look with some subtle mods (at the least some window tint, and depending on the year a painted grill or different grill, and depending on the stock wheels, upgraded wheels). And I also am partial to Black and Silver for that car.
The 3G Type S everything was awesome coming out of the showroom. Wheels, body style, everything. Every color the Type S came in looked incredible. Easily the best looking TL of all time.

Ehh. On paper maybe. But having raced both cars from multiple rolls on the highway, the 6MT 3G Type-S pulled ever so slightly ahead of the 6MT 4G every time. It's still a nice car though.

After the first few runs I just stopped participating and got behind them to pace/watch who would win and by how much.
