Looks good 👍🏽 keep up the good work.
Did you apply any clear to the wheels or a protectant to prevent dirt, chips etc on the paint? The brake dust alone will embed itself in the paint.
I replaced the MAF sensor as another effort to possibly remedy the shaking rough motor issue. That was not it. So I decided to pull ALL the plugs (last time I just pulled the front 3 cylinder plugs). Here is what I found, the rear 3 plugs were black and smelled like gasoline…so there’s some type of combustion issue there. Either too much fuel or not enough air or worst case is oil is getting in the combustion chamber
i put all new plugs in and swapped the rear coils to the front and front to rear to see if its a coil issue.
I wanted type r center caps but real ones were $175-200 and I couldn’t justify the cost so i made my own. I bought blank black center caps off amazon for $7 and painted them white. I then bought red “h” stickers off ebay for $10. $17 total and here’s how they turned out…

Haha. That is fuckin' awesome. They look great.
Dude, I hope the misfire issue works out. The spark plugs is always the best place to start, though, and you got that covered.
Ended up taking the car to the shop to have it checked. It had jumped timing. I ordered a timing kit and a gates race belt so hopefully that will be here this week and I can get this thing running proper next week.
Like my previous post said, ordered the aisin timing and water pump kit and a gates timing belt. I figured I might as well swap out the crank pulley and accessory belt while I’m at it.
went with the unorthodox lightweight underdrive pulley and gates belt. Should definitely pep up the motor a bit because this thing weighs next to nothing. 9.7 ounces
Awesome. I just got a billet crank, power steering and alternator pullies. No underdrive though because I need plenty of current for all the amplifiers.
Are you going to anodize or spray paint your pulley? I think I am.
Edit: And yeah, it is very purty. Machinists do awesome things. Sometimes they become like art. Same with welders. You see a sweet, sweet weld, and you know the man or woman who made that thing is a monster. Aint easy. I've done both. Not well.

Alright so the TL is still in the shop. They thought the injectors were causing the misfire issues but after replacing those it is not the cause. It has the mechanics stumped and this is a very reputable shop I've been going to for years. They continue to work on it to try to figure it out
When was the last time It ran well? Or has it ever ran well? It was shaking early on, no?
You used a lot of spare parts from pick and pull. Just cleaning the throttle body and moving the valve a tiny bit can fuck with things. I wonder if resetting the ECU or getting a tune is what you need.
Oxygen sensors?
What OBD codes are you getting?
I'm just throwing out ideas, dude. You're much more knowledgeable than I am.
Alright so my mechanic ended up diagnosing it as the rear head. It’s done for. I was going to have him replace it which would have been $1800 roughly.
I’m now contemplating an engine swap. I can get a j35a6 off ebay for $1800 shipped with 60k miles. My car has 224k miles.
he is going to get back to me on how much labor would be for that but it may be a better route.
Well I spent hours searching online last night and cannot find a j35a6 from a 05-06 odyssey/pilot. Starting to lean towards the route of new cylinders heads
honestly man I don't have the time right now with work to spend going there and removing that stuff and I dont have a truck to haul it in plus my car has been taking space in this guys shop for weeks now and I just need to get it back quickly without much work on my end. That being said he quoted me this morning and the labor for a single head swap is more than a complete engine swap so I am changing my mind again lol. I am having him track down a 05-06 j35a6 through his sources to do the swap.

I count eight 3.5 05 Ody's & four 05 Pilot's on car-part.com in Missouri salvage yards.
Granted they are 'high' mileage ranging between $500 to $1467.

Yeah, I was looking the other night and I found some on Ebay. They had some rebuilt, pristine ones for $2,500 plus a few hundred shipping. Then I found some JDM ones ranging in mileage, but most were approximately in the 60K mile range. They were more like a grand to $1,500. These were not very clean. It's just some grease and filth, but It seems to me that if you're selling something for a $1.5K, you could at least degrease the fuckin' thing.
Will it mate up to your tranny? Also, are those motors tuned the same as the j35s for the TL? Im going to keep watching the journey and learn something.
no mods or different parts needed? A j35 goes right into the 6speed j32 TL?
You asked if it would mate to the 3G TL 6MT trans. and I answered.
If you want a 'plug n play' engine to straight forward transfer into your J32A3 3G TL 6MT without any 'different parts needed', you are best to stick with a J32A3.
With that said, if you would have read this thread from the beginning, you hopefully would have observed my contribution, in post #8, where I included a linked thread from a forum member who documented this very J35A6 swap into a 3G TL6.
That thread will aid in answering all of your questions concerning 'different parts needed' to make the Honda Odyssey J35A6 compatible with your manual transmission 3G TL.
To answer any questions, yes the j35a6 will drop right in. I will be transferring parts from my old motor as a lot of stuff is newer on my old motor but the only thing that REALLY needs to be transferred is the intake manifold.
The j35a6 needs to be from a 05-06 Honda Odyssey ex, or lx. Or from a 05 pilot. Not other j35 will drop in a 2004 TL besides ones from those exact years and models due to the bell housing.
That being said I ordered a new J series OE+ clutch kit and lightweight flywheel from p2r today. I figure since the motor will be out I might as well upgrade those things

Sounds good man. Thanks for the info. Can’t wait to see it up and running
I just deleted the banter to keep thread on topic...
looks like it was amicably resolved anyway.
FWIW, Zeta takes a lot of time to provide useful info...I know a lot of younger members seem to want the information
provided over and over again instead of reading which can be frustrating because why did we take the time to make a
DIY or provide great info in the first place if you weren't gonna bother reading it. Part of why the forums are so slow these
days vs social media interatctions. Instant spoonfed gratification. There's a place in between where we can all exist though.

I agree. Thanks for keeping us on track. The thread posted is helpful. Looking forward to the progress on this car.

Nice. I agree completely. I see a LOT of people not take advantage of this type of situation. Most months, you're probably not going to have the tranny and engine separated every 1st and 3rd fuckin' Tuesday.

This is moderating done right.

As I wait for the motor I am trying to think of everything I can to replace while the motor and transmission are out. I ordered the innovative 75a trans mounts Friday from heeltoe to go along with the 75a motor mounts I already have in there. The motor and trans should be solid AF now
