Question Would you install CAI into a leased TL-S?

Hey guys,

I need an HONEST opinion, I have 30 months left on my 08 TL-S lease, and I really want to improve the sound of the engine without any heavy modding, as again, this is a lease.

Would you install CAI? knowing that you will have to put everything back....

Is it worth it? I can only imagine the pain it will be to put back the resonator and oem intake. (Also, as I understand there is some drilling involved in the install on a TL-S?)

Thanks

Just to hear a little more"vroom vroom" until you give it back?
Not worth it, IMO...
But is it worth it to you? Only you can answer that...

Ehhh honestly it could go either way. I would say if you don't mind reverting everything back to stock and you are savy enough to be able to do that go for it.

It took me about 3 hours to do it on mine, I don't think it is worth it if it is leased. You have to take off the front bumper, plus drill out some rivets. There are like 5 or 6 little compartments that comprise the stock intake and its a pain in the *** to remove without the front bumper. You could probably make it look stock when you return it. Just use a nut and bolt inplace of the rivets, but are you up to the hastle to install and uninstall it all. The upside, is you do feel an increase on acceleration and it has a nice sound. The ultimate choice is up to you, but personally on a lease I would not do it.

I'm not worried about installing it, I just do not want to reinstall

In the 2G it was soo easy, I didn't even had to remove the bumper.

Decisions Decisions... So far I'm getting a NO vibe.

Like said above at the end of the day it is up to you. If you aren't worrying about installing it I'd say go for it. As far as reinstall get someone else to reinstall your stock airbox haha.

Don't do it unless you're planning on purchasing your TL after the lease is up. And, by the way....BUY the Type S !!!!!

I get bored of cars fast...thus I lease. As you can tell I'm already getting a little bored with a TL-S, so I want a change in it

Man, I want to do it, the install will not be a problem...I just know 2 years from now I will either lose the oem intake or completely forget how I took it out

I would say don't do it to a lease. They nickle and dime you when turn in the lease. If they happen to notice that the car had an intake on it they'll rape you. Also, remember that every time you take it in for service they will note in their computer system if they find aftermarketparts. just my

I'm leasing mine and the only thing I plan on removing is the CAI. As I get closer to turning it in I'm planning on making or doing a custom ice box intake, so when you look under the hood you will see the stock air filter box. You won't be able to tell that the resonator has been removed. Other leases that I've had, they don't look that close when you turn it in. Also, for me modding the car is worth any hassle that removing the mods would cause.

Not worth it ,unless you can sell the CAI after the lease, ...for the most part individuals usually buy mod's brand new!.....Skip it, save your JACK!

The CAI is not that expensive. I'm worried about something else, I heard that Honda/Acura are really anal when it comes to inspecting the lease upon return. I would try to do a seamless CAI install, but I guess reinstalling the oem will give me a headache in the long run.

I've leased from Infiniti/Bmw, and they only cared about visible body damage.

I would say no. If you're that bored with your current car, what until 2009's come out, drive your car to "da club", strategically plow into some drunk person's ride, they'll be at fault, you'll be out of your lease, you can get whatever you want...

I wouldnt bother. All you are going to do is waste more gas as a result of your foot being in the throttle more often. It's gonna' sound good, but unless you plan to help it exhale as well as it inhales, it's pretty much pointless.

1meand, you're on a lease and you've done all these mods to it:
Deck lid spoiler
Tint
Stage 3
Fujita CAI
A-Spec front lip
Type-S tails
Type-S sidemarkers
Type-S grille
Shaved door lock mod
Side Mirror, Back-Up Light, and Partial Headlight Overlays
P2R Throttle Body Spacer
Progress RSB
ATLP J-Pipe
Ultra Sc UR Pulleye

Holy crap! are you planning on redoing everything before you turn it in or are you buying the car at the end of the lease?

Why not if you plan on turning it back to stock before you turn it back in.

People in the VW/Audi scene have put trial reflashes that only last like 8hrs of run time on loaner cars and rentals so why not you with your CAI?

ok, I got a dumb idea...

removing the resonators on the exhaust itself? I'm pretty sure any muffler shop will be capable of reinstalling the stockies...... On my 2G TL that costed me like 50 bux to remove them.

So how dumb is this idea?

My original idea, buy the Type S, and do no mods...that's it...done..fuggedaboutit

Yeah right... I spent 15K on my 2G in mods, what made think I wouldn't try this again... I got a lease specifically so I couldn't mod, as a deterrent lol. But damn it, I want a CAI... I want to hear that I'm driving a 286hp car.

I'll look over the install procedure, maybe that will subdue my craving.

OK, so we got a deal on the CAI...

In regards to hit & run, like a normal person, I got out of my car, (it was stand still traffic) and the dick in 1998 or 1999 Golden Honda Accord, wearing blue t-shirt, age around 40, wearing thick ass glasses, license plate starting with AZN takes off like he stole the damn accord...... All this is happening, as MTA cops watching, and guess what, yep...do absolutely nothing!

So even If I file a report, I'm still paying for it. Freaken WDP paint is mad expensive, 3 stage paint...over 600 for a pint. Fixing the bumper, taking a few dents out, and hoping my exhaust was not bent..i should be spanking new by the end of next week.

So Ed, now you can definitely identify me on the street, DRLS, 212 Motoring, WDP TL-S, with a messed up rear bumper (hanging off, lol). HOTNESS!

^ thank you... I gave the info to my cop friends, but apparently they can't search by description of the car, and only by plate #s.... they told me to stop watching those cop shows on tv.

so it's a go for the CAI? more opinions...come on, don't be shy.

Just do it, who says you have to re-install the resonator part anyways ? There is no noticeable difference in looks what so ever, and the minute intake "noise" that it does get rid of is only in the upper rpm's so I highly doubt the dealership would even notice.

All you would have to put back in is the stock rubber pipe that connects to the TB and the Airbox. Screw the rest of it.

Yeah I would do it too, like others have said, 30 months is a long time and you know damn well it's gonna keep bugging you if you don't put it on.

P.S. - What drilling is there involved in installing a CAI? I've installed and uninstalled many CAIs and i've never had to drill anything. ??

OK this is as real as it gets. If you plan on turning the car back in its a mistake but only a financial one. You have to determine for yourself if its one you are willing to live with. If you plan to purchase the car at the end of the lease go ahead and mod away.

I have uninstalled mine and resinstalled it before. NOT FUN. The upside is you become an expert at it and the 2nd time is a breeze. You can do it in about 2 hrs instead of 3-4. The downside is it's so painful to do double work and you swear you will never want to see a CAI again!

Still one of the best mods on my car but I say skip it!

Quick Reply: Would you install CAI into a leased TL-S?
