Angry The Woes of Mod-ing a warrantied car.

So i recently starting hearing a pronounced click sound upon accelerating from out of first gear, or in reverse. (6 speed) and i know it wasnt there before.
So i take it to DUVAL ACURA.....the advisor hears what i am talking about

THEN THE FUCKER SAYS HE HAS TO CHARGE ME 105.00 TO LOOK AT IT BEC THE CAR IS LOWERED.

Im thinkin what kind of service is this? He automatically assumes the clicking as to do with the fact i have lowered the car 1.2". The proceeds to tell me that cars were not built for lowering springs and makes shit wear out quicker blah blah blah like i am a moron who hasnt owned 10 other cars with springs on it. So i said forget it.

I may take it to another dealer or try to diagnose the problem myself. Any clues?

well I can easily say your first mistake was takeing it to DUVAL acura you should drive down to acura of orange park. MUCH BETTER SERVICE!!!!! That is where i get my boo from and almost every time i delt with DUVAL acura it has been a less then perfect experiance to say the least. put it like this i was station on mayport base and i would drive to acura of orange park just for an oil change.

If they are not an authorized Comptech reseller...they indeed will not back Comptech parts.

I would definately just try that other dealer the poster above mentions. Your Acura dealer appears to be one of those that "frowns" on modding whatsoever. What you have done is not that big of a deal, they should have at least looked at what the issue was before passing a judgement like that even if they arent mod friendly.

Like I've always said... Just cause a dealer sells Comptech, doesn't mean they warranty it. Warranty/Service and Accessory Sales departments are seperately managed, and as most have learned, sales folks will say anything to move the product out the door. Even if the car rolled off the floor with Comptech gear installed, your agreement with the sales staff is irrelevant. In a warranty claim, you're at the service managers discretion.

Warranty as advertised (and implied by the sales staff) on aftermarket stuff is usually for the aftermarket component only BTW. That means if your supercharger malfunctions, and blows the engine, your warranty will get the supercharger fixed... but the requisite blown engine is your responsibility in most cases.

The dealer is correct in his assessment, although most will not charge that exhorbitant of a rate to perform an "estimate"...

Hope I'm not being too negative, or a sissy about this.

Good luck. PS, check your CV boots/joint.

Someday the young people on the board will understand the LAW around auto repair shops

They are required to have a signed form from you allowing inspection, teardown, etc of your car. Otherwise they are a chop shop and you just donated a TL- in the eyes of the Repair Board and the Police.

They also have to cover themselves from customers who want a free full brake inspection or whatever noise found- then have joe down the street do it for them on the side
Why should the dealer look at your car for free?
thats a techs time- billable hours

If it is a warranty problem,- then paperwork for that is made and warranty picks up the diagnosis fees

The dealer MAY have said/meant- 105 is our diagnosis fee.
If it turns out to be CVs- we wont cover under warranty you because car lowered affect that part directly

I took my Pilot with 75K into Honda of the Avenues for an estimate on some damaged exterior plastic. Warranty is way expired and I didn't purchase from them. They spent over an hour inspecting the car, looking up parts and writing the estimate...for free.

It is a fact, however, that parts and maintenance is where dealerships really make their money.

I had the same click. My dealer tightened a bolt on each side for me and it went away. When I go in tomorrow I'll ask which bolt it was. Good luck!

hmmm not sure if suspension mod would induce it or not... but honda/acura's have that click noise in first or reverse when you first start to roll in either.. I belive its the brakes setting in or something like that. Look into it.

They changed out both left and right front wheel assemblies for me. I know that click you talk about very well.

But man, if they wouldve said they were gonna charge me to look at it I wouldve come unglued. But at my dealer they are never like that, Im fortunate to have probably the best dealer in the US.

Tell DUVAL to eat shit and go to another dealer. That click has nothing to do with your car being lower.

yeah im pissed. luckily the other dealer said that he had a stock white 6speed doing the same thing and it turned out to be the brakes moving around bec they were so worn...and it turns out my brakes are shot as well. So i ordered new hawk pads and am going to resurface the rotors when they get in. Hopefully that will solve it, if not I will release the pain.
