Why not single bank turbo?

So I recently bought an 08 type s 6spd. Been interested in looking at turbo's and all mod options. Trying to give the search bar a work out aswell. All I've found is people junctioning bank 1 and 2 to the turbo. I know LS guys have been running single bank turbo setups nicely for a while. Why hasn't it been done? Running a turbo off of front bank would reduce space used by piping. Any idea?

Can you post a link to the single bank turbo LS guys? Ive never seen one, and that makes no sense really. You might see something like the trucks, where they have a single bank that has the turbo flange on it, and then they use the stock manifold on the drivers side that loops around and plumbs around behind the motor and up into the turbo manifold.

I agree that you don't have to twin turbo the car with one turbo on each bank, but you have to get all the airflow from the engine to the turbo some way.

Think about the restriction differences between the two banks, lol

That would be one tough engine to try and tune!!

So I should've looked a little better at the setup. It was a trick performance system. Rather than being ran 1 bank it's a pass through manifold. Stage 2 GM turbo kit. but it does make me curious of making a similar setup.

Yeah, there is nothing inherently wrong with that kind of system - it's very popular in the truck world. Trick, KB, On3, they all run a design like that.

Since our heads don't have multiple exhaust ports, a design like those is really less important. I plan to use a similar design to the oft criticized XS Turbo kit (ebay kit) that is offered for the 98 J engines.

Subarus use a similar manifold style - with a set of 'headers' routed to a single 'up pipe' connected to the turbo. No reason it won't work. Everything in our car is merely a study in fitment and routing.
