first off vtec is not like a turbo and does not give you extra boost. if you turn on vtec at say 2000rpm you will probbaly get a decrease in power. vtec controls the valve timing. there are 2 profiles in our vtec systems for the cams. one is not faster or more powerful than the other. the system is designed so that when reaching higher rpms the valve timing can be adjusted so that it can compensate for the quicker moving pistons. this helps to optimize power and efficiency from the engine and provide a smoother hp and torque curve delivered from the engine. anyone who thinks vtec is some magical boost honda engine's possess is sadly mistaken. the system is fairly simple while other systems like ivtec and probably the best bmw's dual vanos system constantly adjusts the valve timing depending on the rpm. in this case there is no vtec point and the system is active constantly.

Thanks for the info.

The reason i ask is because it seems like there is almost a lag in pull from when you first accelerate - to when you hit the vtec.

I am not looking to "rice" up my car, I was just wondering about the vtec..... THANKS

What modifications do you have on your car? You will need at least I/H/E to get any real use out of a VTEC controller.

I've heard from several people that getting the VTEC controller to communicate with the newer generation system isn't very easy. Don't know this personally but rather heresay.
