Very Expensive Mistake?

Hey Guys - I'm new... in fact, just bought my TL the other day for my 19th Bday - well, actually because I came looking for an RSX and left with a TL.

Here's my situation: I was looking at a 04 APB 6spd manual transmission... beautiful!

I left with a 05 Black (Dont know the acronym) ebony inside automatic TL.

Here is where I'm second guessing myself. I wanted a manual.. faster, more fun, and cool to "say" lol.... immature, I know.

At any rate, if I get another ticket I will get my license suspended - not something I'm proud of but I'm owning up to that. Speed will get me in trouble... so at the desk, I decided to "grow up". Now I know that the 3.2 Vtec engine in the auto (which is the same in the manual) will be the same speed, to an extent, but the manual will shift faster - and more than likely, get my in trouble at HWY 100 (the "race" scene).

I have two reasons for the 'ole "switcheroo" I liked the interior of the 05 - and it has a lot less miles on it. The 04 had 63,XXX and the 05 has 21,XXX... now I know that acuras can pretty much be run into the ground when it comes to miles, so the mileage will not really matter.

What killed me is the warranty... it only took me to 75000 of an additional 1700 to 100000 miles... with the amount of driving i do (50 miles there and back to Milwaukee) I will rack up that remainning 40000 within a year and a half - then the warranty is up.

Im 19, so I cant afford anything to go wrong with this car without a warranty on this 30k car..

what are your guys' feedback on this situation?

what would you all have done?

Good job, & welcome to the group. The rsx is more likely to get you pulled over than the tl. And the fastest 3rd gen tl on these forums was an automatic. And dont worry about the warranty. Nothing will 'break' on your car. Maybe you'll have some warranty service for the alignment issue, if your tires are bridgestones, but other than that, nothings gonna break. Enjoy

The computer controlled Tiptronic Transmission with its knowledge of torque bands and power curves can outshift most normal human drivers- and at the exact moment needed.
One of the reasons it is popular on very fast revving cars from the TL to F1 racers is its quick upshift and computer lockout on downshift- it wont let itself over-rev because of your enthusiasm

Welcome to the TL crowd and PLEASE look into High Performance Driving School offered at a racetrack near you. Usually $250 for a day on track with a race driver coaching you in your own car!.
Much cheaper than crashing the car because you lack the expertise and expereince. It is a fast car as you already know.
I say everyone should go to same type school- it really changes your personal driving style and situational awareness on the public roads

I don't know what you drove before your new TL (congrats by the way), but for the first week or two try to get accustom to checking the speedometer alot.

I went from an 03 Maxima SE (Nissan's flagship at the time) to my 06 TL and the ride/engine noise difference was so profound that I found myself at 60-75mph sometimes thinking i was probably around 45. The TL is that well built.

Or try getting a good radar detector. I have a Belkin RX 65 and have avoided MANY pull-overs thanks to it.

Best of luck and welcome to the forum!

yeah i came from a 2000 cavalier LOL!

I want to get teh K90 system... blocks the radar/laser from all sides... installed inside your car, not through a cigarette ligther. for a cavalier it was 190 with installation, im not sure about a tl.

the only reason why i would believe that it works is because they will pay for your ticket if you get one... garaunteed... then again, you have to worry about points and insurance rates RUCK

Good choice on the car. You'll love this more then the RSX. And ya, the member who posted above is right, the RSX is more likely to get you pulled over. NBP (your color) is hard to keep clean tho.

The manual tranny would have been more fun, but on a huge car like this that is pretty luxurious, the auto is perfect. I decided to go with an auto even though I was hell bent on the stick cause I didn't like how the clutch felt. You can't feel the clutch anymore cause it's connected to a computer and the computer tells the rest of the car that you are stepping on it. You can't feel the pull, it just didn't feel the same as when they were actually connected on older cars. I also didn't like the engagement point cause it was too low tot he floor. Felt weird, but I guess it's something i coulda gotten use to.

Since you are concerned with something going wrong, don't mess with the car too much unless youa re completely comfortable doing it. Don't mess with the electronic system. The TL is pretty fussy when it comes to the electronics.

Other then that, welcome to the best forum made possible by it's mods, members, and vendors!

Woohoo!!! Finally someone on here who knows about HWY!! I live in brookfield and I have an 05 NBP (black) 6-speed. I was just out on HWY last night for a lap or two to see who's out and about.

I would not worry too much about the auto vs stick issue, especially if you are driving a lot, and in traffic, you will be much happier with the auto.

If you need any persuasion for a CAi just let me know, I have the AEM and love it!! aside from that, the one thing I will suggest is invest in a set of blizzaks for winter, and some rims for summer.

As for the race school, go to Miller Park in the summer, they run auto-cross every other sunday I believe. Dont have to be a member, just be there at 7:30 AM with $35, a helmet, and be prepared to hit some cones. It will definitely help with knowing the limits of the car. Done this with every car I have had and it's the best investment hands down.

Hope to see you around some time.....I'm always out and about if you see me just honk.... the car is hard to miss with the 19's on it....

Youre probably better off with the Auto...

Although, I bought an auto, and traded it in on the exact same car in 6mt 5 months later....

LOL thats not reassuring!! Idk, well see. I would really like Navi... but beggars can't be choosers... and my vice is impatience. there was another guy looking at the car i ended up with, since my family is the "acura family" we all have acuras, I got a good deal (my uncle works at Acura too).

They were talking about how the guy was looking at it for 2 weeks and undecided. I went in there after discussing the warranty, turned around and saw this one out the window (i didnt look at this one right away because it was 8k more than the one i was looking at initially) and said "ill take that one" lol

I told the salesman to give my flowers (the ones I would have gotten, along with a tin of cookies after buying the car) to the guy who was looking at it and giving acura the ring-around.
