Torque Dampers

So I'm browsing the 7th gen accord forums and i come across their torque dampers. they bought NRG torque dampers and had CC auto in Cali fab brackets.

With the amount of engine movement we have especially with S/C i think these are a must.

unfortunately, I have no clue who can fab the brackets around here. anyone wanna give this a stab? please? ACCURATEin?

Here is the picture of the torque damper and custom brackets.

Nice find MugenR!

...Right now i've got the Spoon Sports engine torque damper, and i've been wondering where to mount it. The pictures you posted will be helpful.

6MT TL comes with a similar damper from the factory, however 5AT doesn't!

^Haha, yeah man it's there just hard to see, somewhere in the middle in the back of the engine. Honda included it cause with each shift the engine is rocking more violently when shifting manually as oppose to Auto's smooth shifts. They definitely made the 6MT more sportier with little changes and additions here and there

You'r welcome, and yeah Auto is missing out a lot but Honda probably figured it will be driven less aggressively more like a lux car should be, boy were they wrong

So wouldnt the mounting point still be there for an auto? Can we just simply install the 6MT ETD on a 5AT ?

^^ thats where i got my idea to mount my custom damper as you can see from the pics. the stock 6spd TL damper is gas filled though and was to pricey by the time i figured parts and all that. i ran the GB for this last july and about 30 people bought them. its a great mod and does reduce wheel hop tremendously.

Think the NRG version is stiffer than the 6MT version?

Think we could swap this right on to the OE mounting points?

you can access it from the top, just need a 2 ft long extension for your socket wrench.

yes, it is much stiffer than the oem gas filled damper and has far less range of motion, which will give you the least amount of engine movement.

no, it wont work witht the same mounting points. the oem damper has completey different ball joints than the nrg damper or any AF damper out there.

So if our 5AT's dont have this, and the 6MT's do, is there a way we can get it going on the 5AT TL'S? When i dyno'ed my car, i noticed a fair amount of engine movement (261whp N/A) so i would like to fix that....

^^

yea, these should help us, with the amount of engine movement we get, we should see a noticeable shifting smoothness and possible increase in acceleration from more power being delivered efficiently to the tires.

anybody have an answer to my question? could a 6MT ETD be placed on a 5AT ?? im very interested in this now...

and if not, maybe we could start a group buy for an Ingalls ETD kit like that of the TSX

Anybody come up with an answer for this?

Will the 6MT Engine damper fit/bolt on to the AT TL-S??

^ I think the ingalls design is much better... you should pursue fabbing something similar

all you need is the one for the 7th gen accord and then modify the bracket which attaches to the strutmounts

I approached richie v6 with this idea, but the strut bar was the first priority

I am trying to figure out if the mounting points are on the AT engine. There doesn't seem to be a part number for the bracket alone, but the parts drawing is hard to decipher - it looks like the bracket is included in the kit.

I am going to look at my car and mmade22's car side-by-side as soon as I get a chance. See how it's mounted on the MT.

That's pretty much it for the MT.

If I can go from nothing (which is what I have now) to a straight bolt-on from the MT, I'd be happy. An improvement that is simple and direct suits me fine.

(for now )

so its right next to the throttle body? I'll take a look at the 5AT later on and see what can be done. Also I think that the 6MT's have a front damper or something, its right near the radiator near the battery someone told me. I don't have a 6MT to check it out on, anyone have an idea about that?

The top of the Torque Damper looks like it acutally connect at or very near to the Rear Engine Mount Bracket. The Rear Engine Mount is the cut-off pic just up and to the left of the Torque Damper in the 2nd SM Photo.

- Cost.

- Don't want the added/extra NVH at this point - wife's daily driver. I figure the damper will help a little with minimal NVH.

BUT, when the stock mounts crap out and/or she gets a new DD, .... .

If it helps any, my gf didn't notice the extra vibration at all. We commute everyday together and I never told her I installed the mounts.

the driver would notice the most because he/she touches the steering wheel and literally the fire-wall where most of the vibration is...

i bought the damper last week because it needs to be replaced and thought about putting the ingalls on there instead of the stock one..... only thing is the bottom bracket would have to come out a lil more but they seem to have about the same travel on them.... im still hesitant though because it seems like it would transfer more vibrations through the car....especially with the innovative mounts installed. ive always wanted to put the stiffy in there in place of the stock kyb damper....but i dont have time to fabricate the bracket n test it under real world conditions and go back n correct any issues....otherwise we'd already have something for it... =/

this is interesting since I developed a new cabin vibration after installing my P2R products (at least thats when I first noticed it). Can only be fealt and heard when holding the brakes in Drive with radio off and it seams to be coming from the driver side dash or steering column; can't be heard from engine bay. I'm wondering if it's shot motor mounts. I have about 5K of warranty left. I'm going to wait until I put my Koni's on to take it in, but it will have 90% of the bolt on's available for an '06 5AT. This has the potential to become a battle between me and the service manager but I've read a few threads of members having good luck getting motor mounts replaced.
