^ They're two? Aren't our engines SOHC? Well isn't the base TL SOHC?

Our cars are of a "V" configuration = V6. The 6 standing for the amount of cylinder the engine has. Each bank or side of the "V" has 3 cylinders which have their own head with its own valvetrain and a single cam shaft = SOHC. If there were 2 cams on each side then you would have a DOHC.

SOHC= Single Over Head Cam
DOHC= Dual Over Head Cam

http://www.howstuffworks.com/engine.htm

also go to google, hit the images option and punch in V6 engine.

^ DOH! Thanks for clearing that up... I didn't know that we had two heads. But I guess it makes sense now.

In other words, 1 cam per head so there are 2 cams total.

Too bad we can't raise the rev limit, that would probably help to take full advantage of the type S cams.

Is it worth it to swap those cams? On a stock J32 springs and retainers?

It's all theoretical until someone tries it.

The generic answer is more duration and lift will increase breathing at higher rpms. You will shift the powerband higher which is why I suggested a higher rev limiter assuming the valvesprings and internals are up to it.

How the TL wil react, we don't know......yet.

Typically cams will compliment an already free flowing intake and exhaust tract. May not do anything on a stock engine. Automatic cars may think twice about this mod as the auto TL already lacks off the line power.

Interesting. There's this guy on erformance.net forum with an Accord who's putting TL-S cams in his J30. There's no update its been a month.

The ECU in the TL is that tricky to play with? I mean there's nothing we can do at all with the computer to add 500 RPM? I miss OBD1.

The TL-s cams will absolutely fit in the TL, as they do in the Accord. One user dyno'd 35whp after raising CR to 11:1 after the TL-s cam install on the auto J33. The J33 is an OEM swap of the MDX crank/pistons.

How about we pass the weak Type-s camshafts. Not knocking them but guys money to hp it's not worth the mod time, blah. Now i have been working really hard to find the anwser to the almightly question? Do the J37 cam fit in our engines anwser is yes. But the timing is an issue. Now thats worth the mod.

A rep from Hondata had made a thread to gauge interest in a tune for the 3G TL, but none of our members were able to volunteer their car, not mention they were quite rude. It resulted in Hondata losing interest altogether. Although a couple people had said they had gotten a custom tune from Hondata that lowered Vtec engagement and increased redline.

i cant believe this thread is still up. anywho, i mentioned this before, for real performance, look into a real aftermarket cam. webcam had a custom grind for j32 tl motors. dont remember the cost, but the turnaround time is about 3-4 weeks, plus you have to send them a set of cams to grind.

^^ +1. If you really want to see power gains, go aftermarket. Either Webcam or Bisimoto (which is really Webcam, Bisi just makes the custom grinds and gets the work done by WC). Bisi makes some great stuff and is working on cams for the J series. I would expect to see 25-30whp from aftermarket cams. TL-S cams will surely provide an increase, but not near what an aftermarket cam could do. I am looking into some cams and high compression, but that will only be when the pocket allows it

ive been saying "reground" cams for longer than i care...dont think anyone ever considered it...but make sure you can get a tune once installed... and dont go crazy aggressive or you're gonna hate driving your own car. this would be good for anyone who;s running boost, or will be running boost. I dont know if anyone mentioned this but, if you plan on trying to rev higher, Supertech makes your valve train stuff...I believe Josh from Exr8 posted a thread on it, and can actually get you the stuff you need.

Josh confirm this.

Im on the site and I dont see an application for the J series motors. Do you know ball park what this would cost? and do we have to run anything external to have the ECU re-tuned?

so overall after i read all the comments, it's okay for the tl to install the tls camshaft, but it's better to get aftermarket camshaft if you want to improve more hp in your car. am i right?

You arent gonna see a part you have to fill out the engine sheet. It will ask you alot of questions like your bore, stroke all that stuff.... There is alot of questions so find the sheet and just print it out until you have all the questions answered then go back and fill it out.. It's just easier that way

Its under the custom cam worksheet. If you have a cam done MAKE sure they give you the grind sheet. They did not send one with a couple of other cams I have had done by them..... I had to call them...... They acted stupid but I got it
