I think you're wasting your money with the cold air intake. The TL already has a pretty good air intake, so you're just paying for the sound and won't get any noticable power increase with the AEM intake. The supercharger will certainly give you some extra power, but I think it's risky for our engine. We've got 10:1 compression ratio, and putting a supercharger on an engine with that compression ratio is very dangerous. Yes, it's going to give you more power, but for the price and stress on the engine, I'd take the money and spend it elsewhere. Just my $.02. Think carefully before you buy that supercharger. There might also be warranty issues down the road if you blow the tranny or engine with the supercharger.

To JetJock;

Our mechanical compression ratio is 11.00:1.

Jetjock, unless you have installed a CAI and have had a bad experience you might be just throwing out that thing we called an opinion.

CAI's usually help any car because they are:
-bigger in diameter
-don't have baffles
-don't have air silencers
-have less bends

Blah blah blah.

Anyway, if you do a CAI, you might need to sell it if you do a supercharger, because the supercharger might come with it's own air induction.

intake

I was watching one of those horsepower shows this past weekend where they buy a 1998 camaro for 11000 and dyno the car, then they add on aftermarket products to boast power.

The carmaro was a v8 and it dynoed at 300 hp at the wheels.

After adding a 3 inch cat back exhaust, intake and plenum, and a larger throttle body, they saw an added 19hp. They said that was just the beginning.

Yet 19 ponies for all that. And remember they do not pay 90 an hour for labor. There was not much gained for the work they put into it.

maybe u should try the tornado..not sure if that product is still out, but i remember seeing an infomercial on it...it's a little fan that is inserted in the piping of your intake and it's supposed to add horsepower to your engine! Didnt they dyno the car before and after to prove that it works?

(by the way...it's just a joke). I dont see why you really need to add HP...the car already has 270. i had an integra before getting a TL and I did all the typical mods, intake, exhaust, headers...I didnt put on stickers tho...and maybe that was my problem cuz I did hear that big gaudy stickers on the body or window add HP to your car...but all I really got out of it was deep sounds coming out of th exaust and intake and the ability to set off car alarms in parking lots.

I dunno, maybe i'm just getting older and not willing to dump all this money in my car. I do hope to lower my new TL a little (when it finally arrives) and get some 19's eventually...maybe clear my headlights....hmm...hell..maybe i will go ahead and get exhaust and intake and do it all over again. If I get started with the upgrades, i just might not stop...

I have no idea what my point is...sorry for the wasted space

I had a 98 Camaro SS, 6MT, and it dynoed 288rwhp bonestock.

I did an air lid, kn filter, and a cutout, and it dynoed 300rwhp.

I did headers, hi flow cats, and a Random Tech catback and dynoed 325rwhp.

I picked up a total of 37rwhp for $2,000. Not a bad gain at all. That was without pcm tuning, since then folks have gotten like 340rwhp no problem with !cats, and tuning.

I think the TL would respond to CAI and exhaust mods, but the car might get a little loud. Look at the size of that resonator!
