It's not a fast car so why do you young kids keep insisting on making it sound "Mean" and "aggressive" and "loud"? Cause it sounds cool and attracts attention? Kids will be kids I suppose, but this makes no sense.

Save up for a complete cat-back system if you want to sound mean. Stage mods sounds like garbage compared to a true cat-back system. And the people that "compliment" you on your stage exhaust system saying it sounds good clearly doesn't know what a real cat-back system should sound like. I'm sure they are the same ones that think the fart cans on civics sounds good. "WOW THAT SOUNDS SO MEAN".
Took the rice words right out of my fingers haha. Wouldn't have described my observations any better...

yeah its loud as hell!! i had rv6 pcds rv6 jpipe 2.5 piping to no mufflers and just tips. with no resonator you could probably hear me like a mile away it was really really loud. then i put on a resonator . got a lot quieter and not much drone anymore.

I'm not understanding, is everyone just piecing their exhaust together and leaving sections of factory pipe in between? Is this just for budget? Why not replace the stock pipe in between the components you're using? Most of this stuff is cat-back correct? Premade mandrel bends are affordable if you find the right retailer.

I'm not knocking the idea AT ALL. There's nothing wrong with wanting to achieve an "exotic" exhaust note from the TL imo. It seems very suitable for the design. The majority of cars I consider in the same "class" of the TL have a very nice exhaust note.

All of the aftermarket exhausts on the market for these cars are a pretty penny. I'm glad that this community has given an alternative for the people who don't care about performance. Why drop a stack on trying to alter the sound of the vehicle when you have no desire to modify further or add additional supporting mods?

I personally am torn between doing my own custom mandrel catback w/ PCD's and Jpipe. I'm not sure in which direction I want to take the Acura. I bought it to daily drive and sink $$ into my '88 Starion. NOW I find myself lurking Acurazine! haha

I did a stage 2 exhaust with the rear mufflers deleted. Its pretty loud with a deep tone. You can avoid the ricer disease by keeping the magnaflow resonator installed.

Forgot about this thread, here's a video of mine with the Stage 3 Dynomax res and rear mufflers deleted, as long as you keep the resonator it's not ricey sounding. I did just the mufflers first and it was louder but not aggressive sounding, the smaller resonator made it much more aggressive. IMHO the dollar/HP ratio for a catback is way off for these cars, I do have a J pipe which is an exhaust power mod, the rest is just a little exaggeration and weight reduction.

Here is my own stage, (2.5). The mid muffler and 3rd cat were deleted. There is NO drone, and I deleted the back seats and everything in the trunk. My car isn't a TL, but I wouldn't expect yours to be much different sounding.

Hope you like it.

No thanks. I think the stage 3 mod sounds the best for a "Cheap" exhaust. The accord posted in here sounds great, my stage 3 sounds the same.

The muffler deletes on the TL make the car sound like a civic running a fart can. I got a chance to hear a TL with muffler delete in real life and it was very bad. It sounds nothing like the Lexus/BMW/Infiniti, those cars sound GREAT with a muffler delete, even the IS250 my buddy has sounds so mean.

On the TL it sounds like a raspy rattle can, esp when you rev it in park, the limiter makes it sound like straight up rice. As another poster said due to the engine in these cars the exhaust will never sound nice with a muffler delete.

I currently have a stage 1 exhaust and would like to add more tone to my exhaust note, would removing the rear 2 mufflers accomplish this without rasp. I believe as long as I keep the stock resonator ill be ok any thoughts??

zachlone, i have stage 2 exhaust with the mufflers deleted. I don't have any rasp at all. As long as you have a resonator in, you will be rasp free

Ok, would deleting the rears cause drone? I don't mind a little, my last vehicle was a dodge ram hemi with a 10 series flowmaster so I have had loud before but I kinda want to not go that extreme. I've seen 2 videos with rear deletes and one sounded amazing and the other sounded like shit! I just don't want to ruin the sound of my car and I don't wanna sound like a screaming mess and no go.

windows up, the volume is not that bad. windows down, you definitely can hear it. As far as drone, the only bad spot it 2K rpm. Short shift into second might give you a little virbrating, or a slow 6th gear on the highway will give you some drone. However, just jumping up a few hundred rpm from 2000 will get ride of all the drone. All in all, pretty minimal

ok if its a minimal drone thats not bad thanks for the help! Im new to this site and I just recently bought my 2005 Acura TL AM and just starting to mod/personalize it. Its a luxury sedan and dont want it to sound like a POS. needs to hold its class and kick ass in the process! These cars are pretty quick and I love it! wish i could have found a TL-S with the 3.5L but o well. I love my car and it is stock other than tinted 20% and stage 1 mid muffler delete.

new to the site aswell! I had the same dilema with money and such for the catback. However at this point, i prefer the stage 2 with muffler delete. The free flowing air and weight reduction has given the throttle noticeable response with some extra kick.

well then mid muffler is included in stage 2 exhaust. Stage 2 is just mid muffler delete and replacing the stock resonator with a magnaflow resonator (deeper tone). That in its self is a minor mod. The rear mufflers are what really give you the sound when deleted

correct, magnaflow resonator with straight pipes. I started with the stage 2, but wanted more sound, so i went to the straight pipes.

stage 1/2/3 mods add minimal sound. Deleting the rear mufflers is what really turns heads.

Just deleting the 3 mufflers and keeping the stock resonator will still give you the sound, all the magnaflow resonator does is change the pitch to a deeper tone.

All the videos I have heard on youtube with a stage 2 or stage 3 which is magnaflow vs dynomax resonator have a raspy sound. I dont want rasp at all! just nice tone without spending a fortune and the mid muffler delete (stage 1) wasnt enough for my liking!

I have a tanabe catback with the cat removed and I get that nice gurgle and pop sound. You don't have to delete mufflers to get that.

My car is also gutted with all the sound deadening and heat shields removed. It is a lot louder in the cabin and I love it. I can put my iPhone on full blast with music playing in my lap and can't even hear it without headphones.

I also don't have to worry about cops because my exhaust is in the legal decibal range.

Full custom exhaust is the best way to go for power and weight reduction. The bolt on systems will always be restrictive based on having to mate to stock components.

I did the same thing (rear muffler delete) but added new double wall stainless tips. I LOVE the sound but I'm wondering if you noticed a bit less bottom end power? Maybe I'm just paranoid.

Nope still feels the same to me. But yes I LOVE the sound and get ALOT of complements on the way it sounds. I thinks its the only way to go if your gonna modify the stock exhaust. But I haven't heard any of the stage mods in person.

Do you have a link to the cutout you bought? How reliable has it been? I've heard of burnt motors.

Also, do you have a video of it? I'd like to hear what it sounds like.

How long did you have your stage 3? did it change tone? I had my stage 3 for about two months now and I think its perfect for me...once I get CAI it should sound better? Was also thinking about deleting the two rear mufflers but scared might sound weird or to loud, lol.....idk
