STOPTECH Brake Packages-experience?

Am approaching 60k on my '07 TL-S, approaching the time to replace my oem brakes and exploring options. There are some fairly amazing details on the STOPTECH packages out there, and have been told that a lot of people on this forum are running them. Can some of you please provide your experience in regards to: improved performance; dust; and ,longevity compared to OEM Brembos?

Also please detail between Crossdrilled, or slotted, or combined crossdrilled & slotted?

Thanks,

Actually, barely anyone is running the Stoptech ST-40 BBK.
Most people are running OEM brembos or the Rotora BBKs.

The BBK market has been decreasing for this site since Rotora has stopped producing a 1-piece rotor BBK, forcing all customers to purchase the 2-piece kit which is expensive.

Why many people aren't running the stoptech BBK is beyond me, since I have been quoted some excellent prices, including sellers on ebay. You can find a great set of ST-40s for approximately $1800. But I am speaking on behalf of the 04-06 5AT crowd.

But comparing the OEM brembos and the Stoptech, I doubt there will be a noticeable difference in stopping power; they are both a 4-piston system. If you are looking to upgrade your OEM brembos, then I would look into the 2-piece rotors available for the 04-06 6MTs and the 07-08 type-s's. Upgrade your useless brake lines to stainless steel ones and upgrade your pads. With those 3 things, I am positive you will have a more secure braking system. There is no need to upgrade to a stoptech.

Are you referring to the brake packages we offer with STOPTECH/Powerslot components? If so, these packages are a great upgrade. The rotors have a power alloy compound, black coating on the hubs and vanes, and the pads a re a lower dust, lower noise compound with great initial bite and long term performance.

I believe he was referring to the brake packages we offer with STOPTECH components.

That being said, we offer the STOPTECH 2 pc 328mm disc 4-Piston caliper Big Brake Kit for even less than $1800.

But it's only for the Base TL crowd Auto, as you mentioned.

To the OP,

If you REALLY want an upgrade and are willing to drop the loot for it, PM Excelerate about the 6-piston Rotora BBK available for 04-06 manuals and 07-08 type-s application. It's not on his website but they have produced a 6pot kit.

I would love to see that.

Yes, we have sold that kit before to the TL-S customers. I think the factory calipers are sufficient; just some upgraded rotors/pads/lines would be recommended. But some people want the bling and larger caliper.

Just looking at rotors and pads, my calibers are fine. Yes, I was looking at the XLR8 StopTech package. Looking for someone that has tried it.
I get the cross-drilled, and have used it before to solve brake fade problem on my old passat. But, the slots on the stoptech seem to be (look like) more for show than function, and have doubts about them.

Well I took a chance and ordered the Stoptech 4-wheel package, and will install them next week.

Installed the rears this weekend. My fronts (OEM rotors's, w/ 2nd set of pads -roturas) have at least another 20k miles left in them.

I am assuming that there is some break in to be allotted for. But I will say that I had to get on them this morning, and was if anything disappointed. No difference, and maybe even slightly worse than the OEM setup.

If there is any interest, I will give an update as I get more use on them.

What I did was order front replacement Brembo rotors that were cross-drilled by Brembo and OEM pads for my 07 TL-S. Online ordering proved to be much cheaper than my local stealership.

I then had the rotors cryo-genic treated before install and there is ZERO fade. I have had to make several severe brake stops from 75+ MPH (not by choice) and after 5000+ miles, I couldn't be happier.
