Stock TL Exhaust to Type-S Exhaust

So I was lucky enough to get my hands on a stock Type-S exhaust from a local member. I ordered my Type-S rear lip from Tim at Hondaacuraworld.com but it isn't due to arrive until next weekend.

I sold my rear aspec lip to a member in DC so I got lucky and have a job to do in his area so I am delivering it to him on Monday. I had already taken the bumper off to remove the rear lip so I figured, mount the exhaust now and cut the bumber. I already have holes and marks on the bumper so whatever.

I will post some pictures of the car with the type-s lip once I get it. Here are some pictures of the two exhaust side by side to see that it is a direct match. Can't go wrong with the type-s tips.

So did you notice any sound/power differences with the type-s exhaust or is it all just aesthetic?

Yo!

Whoa whoa whoa! Hold the phone! I need to pay attention to this... DId you already cut the bumper? I can't tell. I'm prolly gonna need to order a Type-s rear lip as well so that my ATLP (hopefully it goes through) will fit. If it's not too much of a hassle can you take lots of pics of the cutting? I gotta learn this... and if enough people do then maybe we can get a group buy on Type-S lips!

mmade has cut small notches at the side of the exhaust-ports to allow the type-s exhaust fit the base-bumper.
I believe to fit the type-s a-spec you will need to cut a bigger portion of the exhaust ports. Then apply the type-s a-spec like you would normally.

Thier really is not diff between teh TL-S and base TL exhuast system, besides the 2 tips at teh end. I really wish the Base TL tips were chrome, and poop out more, like the ATLP Base exhuast.

According to Honda/Acura the TL-S exhaust is higher flowing. Maybe that's the cats or maybe it's the cannisters. Maybe both.

grrrr... im gonna steal your garage one day

you'll come home from work, and i will have sawed your house in half, and flatbedded your garage to NY

man... if my garage was like that, i'd also keep like a mint 67 GTO in there

nice conversion.... here is something that i never thought about until today only

Acura claimed the Type-S had a throatier exhaust..... both exhausts are EXACTLY the same, minus the tips.... so is there a different muffler in there? or is this "throatier" sound accomplished from the type-s Primary Cats being 600 cell/inch versus base Pre-Cats at 900 cell/inch

Al, Alex is always around with me when I am working on the Acura. We went to Cars and Coffee in the morning and he was in love.

The garage is no bigger than before. I think I know why.... With the exhaust behind the car, you can get an idea of the room I have. It is a very large 2.5 car garage 680 square feet in all. The funny thing.....when we lived in NY and owned a co-op, it was a mere 700 square feet. I spend most of my time in it as would most car nuts.

Not a difference at all. I wanted to take a picture of the setup to show the exhaust is the same except for the tips.

My rear bumper looks like ass!!! I am not happy to have to drive it like this but what am I to do. I need to be in MD by tomorrow afternoon. The only way to finish off a nice looking exhaust is to rock the rear Type-S aspec skirt. I ordered mine from Tim at hondaacuraworld.com for 283 shipped. No group buy needed with a price like that!

Eric, plan on rolling over on Friday to help out if you can. I can use your help since you have done it before.

Funny Allon! Growing up in Babylon, NY most houses had at best a one car garage. Down here, my garage is on the small size. The exhaust is no different so I would have to say it has something to do with the cats.

I am going to do what most guys have done and remove the resignator and mid muffler. Thanks to Al with the great video of that mod

Thanks for the on the garage. This is not the first time it has been on this form. Many, many mods have taken place here as a lot of Charlotte locals can tell you. The ATLP install on Friday had seven people deep hanging out.

I have couple questions, is the bumper on your car a NON TLS bumper or is it a TLS bumper? im looking to install a TLS exhaust as well on my base TL, if i were to buy the rear aero kit will it fit on the non TLS rear bumper if I were to cut holes for the exhaust and mounting holes?

Jack, I guess nothing impresses you? I have worked long and hard on my garage for what it has become today. Epoxy floor, custom work bench, crown molding, TV with cable, computer with internet access, full size fridge and the list goes on. I guess its just a garage....... Right?

Thanks again for the pat on the back and to everyone else.

OK back on topic!

I got the lip in today and Eric came over to help out with the install. I decided to do a DIY so that everyone could see how involved it is to get this on. It's not to bad and the outcome is

Here is the DIY-
https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/e-121-diy-installing-type-s-aspec-rear-lip-base-tl-bumper-709992/

Of course, here a few pictures.

BTW- I am redoing my garage floor in March and putting down a clearcoat over the epoxy blue so wait until you see that. I am hoping for a reflection on the floor.
