Stage 3 or Stage 4 exhaust setup? Opinions please

I debating between stage 3- replace mid muffler with straight pipe and replace resonators with after market ones OR Stage 4- replace mid muffler and resonators with straight pipe.

I have a 2007 tl-s. I've seen videos on YouTube and stage 4 is louder but raspier and stage 3 is not as loud but deeper.

Any opinions or anyone have either set up?

getting it done in couple hours so fast replies appreciated.

Thanks

Question is what do you like? Loud and rasp or soft but deep?

I have stage 3 and I love it. Gives the car more of a voice and ditches the weak honda sound. But it is also still subtle enough that most passengers wouldn't realize it isn't just stock, it sounds that smooth.

Stage 3 FTW! Make sure to get the right resonator, 23245 I think it was. Whichever Chip (The Machine) determined was the right one.

Sounds like you answered your own question. Stage 4 is loud and raspy...why would anyone want to drive a loud and raspy V6? Stage 3 you said is toned down a bit and deeper....Sound like the winner to me! ;-)

I did stage 4 for power purposes with all straight pipes. I dont mind loud and raspy but my car is being built for power so to each their own as far as sound goes.

You didn't gain any power by removing the mid muffler and resonator and replacing them with straight pipes.

Whatever you do run a resonator or it'll sound like a Civic. You can run no mufflers with a res and it still sounds good. I kept the mid muffler and deleted the rears, then went with a Dynomax resonator. I've heard them with all 3 mufflers gone and a resonator and it's still nice sounding.

24235 is the resonator you want in order to avoid rasp.

so fucking hard right now.

in order to gain power; you'll need to get mandrel bent pipes, and not the factory's crushed bent pipes.
also, the factory pipes are at a 2.25 diameter.

so, what you have is a 2.25 crushed pipes with the resonators and mufflers taken out.
this is just for sound.

if you upgraded to a 2.5 or even a 3 inch diameter mandrel bent pipe; you'll gain.

On a dyno, It produced 3 whp. Did the dyno run and then threw on the 3rd cat delete then dynoed again.

I dont have factory piping. And I have a resonated XLR8 exhaust along with PCDs, J Pipe and cat delete...

maybe I confused the term stage 4 for something else. oops.

Wait, you have the XLR8 exhaust????
that means you couldnt have done the stage 4 mod.

this thread is about the factory cat back exhaust. not an aftermarket exhaust, like the XLR8.
why not just say this from the beginning!!

Hey guys, thanks for all the input! So this is what I did...

I began with the stage 4 set up (mid muffler and resonator delete, replaced w/ straight pipe). It was a huge difference, really loud but way too raspy. It had a higher pitched tone to it and when driving hard and high reving it sounded good. However city driving was embarassing. It sounded like I had a leak in the piping, especially driving slow and in 3rd-4th gear is was horrible. always had to shift up to 5th to eliminate the awful sound.

So I picked up the dynomax res and got that installed instead. Way quieter but a lot deeper. Any car guy, especially TL owner will know that it's much deeper and cleaner than stock. Even in cabin there is a nice hum to the engine now. It sounds good through all the gears. I wish it was louder but I'll take the low deep note over the raspy stage 4 set up any day.

Anyone looking for advice or a cheap exhaust set up, definitely go with stage 3 over stage 4. You will be dissapointed with the stage 4 set up!

Happy modding!

Then what do you gain by removing the mid and the resonator with straight pipe.

im in the same boat. i just did the stage 4 because i didn't have the dynomax just to hear how it sounds. To be quite honest, the rasp only occurs at 2400 rpm. Other than that it sounds really nice. It's honestly like a g35 minus a few liters lol. But i am just wondering if there is a way to get rid of the rattle without adding the dynomax

Bringing this back from the dead. Currently have stage 3 + 3rd cat delete.
Sounds great listening from the outside. But when driving I wish I could get more sound, especially at the lower RPMs (2.5k and up sounds good, but not much below that). When I drive on a street with these on the road, I wouldnt change a thing because the walls do amplify the growl at the lower end. But on open roads, i wish I could hear more. Basically, i wish we had those barriers everywhere because i wouldn't change a thing.

The next logical thing is to go to stage 4, but its very largely been poor reviews from people. To much rasp it seems.

I want to increase volume by about 10-20% than current. Dont have any drone, and would like to keep it that way. A 10 or 8" dyno res would have been enough, but they dont exist. The closest thing is a 6.5" mini bullet from them, but inlet/outlet is 3" compared to the stock 2.25". Can this still be welded on? If not, what about 3" to 2.5"? The guys welded on the dynomax with an extender and used 2.5" piping for that.
Suggestions or thoughts? Last exhaust mod for sure, unless it sounds terrible, so I wont be looking for any exhausts to purchase instead.
