So, what's next?

Hey guys, new on the forum and to Acura's... I traded in my stage 3 WRX for a 2008 type S 5spd Auto, which I deeply regret not waiting for a 6 speed... Anyways, I have had it for 3 months, and installed ATLP exhaust,AEM V2 intake, RV6 J-Pipe, and i have PCD's waiting for me to pick up at FedEx tomorrow. I have done a fair amount of research, and I'm sorry if this has been gone over a dozen time, but I don't think I am ready to drop another 2k on ECU, or 4 or 5k on tc/sc. Other than UR pulley, which I am still undecided on, what's next for power without breaking the bank?

Thanks-

That's pretty much it man...

you can PnP runners, manifold, etc...but that's not cheap either.

ECU isn't $2k...Rodney had a GB for $1225 shipped. I would get the ECU if I were you. having the ability to tune is priceless.

UR pulley is also good, and shed some unwanted weight from the car will help.

That is true... I saw his individual pricing was 1495.00 I think, with several other suggested or optional mods to go with it. I was iffy on the UR pulley just from hear say, I haven't done enough research to know any possible disadvantages yet. I have installed stereo system though, so I know I would need the Sc.

Thanks for the quick response!

Boxer, you can try a Throttle Body Spacer. The UR Pulley is a great mod. It won't give you more horsepower, but it sure makes your accelerator more responsive!

Thanks Steven! I will read up on that.. Is there a brand that's better than the rest?

Is this a question or a factual statement?

If it's a 'factual statement', you have been misinformed. If it's a question, search for the true answer. It lies around here on AcuraZine somewhere...

This has nothing to do with performance modifications that the OP was asking for lol. Usually debadging, plastidip and wrapping are all 1st mods for new owners that have limited $$ for modding.

OP came from a stage 3 wrx and now owns a type-s 5at. He's barely had it for 3 months and already purchased
"ATLP exhaust,AEM V2 intake, RV6 J-Pipe, and i have PCD's"
It's pretty safe to say that he probably doesn't care much for plastidip as much as power lol

The next mod should be a 6MT swap.

As far as performance mods go you've hit a lot of them already.

PnP IM and TBS are good options to consider as far as $/gains.
Look into the Ultimate Cooling Mod to help keep your engine bay temps down. (It's Free)

I'd get the PCD ceramic coated before installation.
This will also help keep temps down.

The ECU is a great product and one I think you shouldn't discount because of the price.
Especially because your pretty much bolted up it will help you get the most out of the mods you've already done.
Early adopters have said the bump in power and the drive-ability of the car are in tandem; meaning a better balanced car.

^maybe because he's seeing his thirties pretty soon
I chose the type-s over a lot of cars on the market in 2008 because it was the best compromise for my lifestyle

anyway, seriously look into weight reduction OP, you'd be surprised at how much better the TL feels. Lightweight braille battery can save you 20lbs up front and it doesn't take away from the luxury aspects of the car at all. It isn't pricey either! Look into inaccurate's thread on the TL diet and delete what weight you can live with. Powerrr to weight ratio!!

Like the others have said looks like you got the major ones already.

I am contemplating on the Thermoblock spacer since it is $113 shipped.

Here is one thread on the topic.

https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-performance-parts-modifications-112/outlaw-engineering-thermoblock-spacers-590965/

Outlaw Engineering ThermoBlok spacers are thermal insulating replacements for your stock intake manifold and throttlebody gaskets. Made from a heat blocking phenolic laminate, ThermoBlok spacers increase power from your engine by keeping the intake cooler.

Key benefits:

» Produces a cooler intake manifold and intake charge resulting in MORE POWER
» A cooler intake charge also reduces the tendency for
detonation, meaning ignition timing can be advanced for
MORE POWER
» Almost invisible modification, looks stock for the stealth factor
» Better gas mileage
» Replaces stock gaskets
» Reusable over and over
» No undesirable side effects

Interesting mods. What is TB? Do you know how much horse power each of these mods would provide?

Awesome thank you! I don't think I am far from you either. I am in Wichita Kansas. I will be in touch with the ECU, this looks like what I am going to do after the rest of the little stuff. I am going to order TBS, and UR pulley today. Thinking I am going to try and tackle to PCD install tomorrow...

Thanks to everyone for the congrats! May is coming soon!!

^^^ TB is the throttle body....

1 through 4 will provide you roughly around 15-17WHP and ECU will provide you ~25wHP....I hope you know you cant just add up the WHP and say WOOT 40WHP....but these mods will yield you ~32-35WHP....

if done well with supporting exhaust mods, you will be gain over 50WHP.....
