Short shifter?
Short shifter?
Hello,
Newbie here.
I recently bought an 06 base TL and I'm surprised at how short the shifter feels. This is the sportiest car I've ever owned so I have nothing to compare it to. I'm wondering if TLs come like this or if the original owner installed an aftermarket short shifter. I'd appreciate hearing from other fellow TL owners.
thanks

base model TL is an auto... the 6mt model is the stick..... the throw on the 6mt is fairly short stock.... but short shifter comptech makes reduces throw by 40-50% the only way to tell if its on is to take the middle console apart and get a visual
Not hard at all but the only pain in the ass is removing the trims around the center console and the glove box if i remember correct. I honestly dont think that it reduced the shift by 40-50% im thinking 20% but i guess I would need to feel the stock throw again. Definatly not the short throw like i had in my 93 and 99 integras. But nice mod for the price.
the installation for the short shifter if fairly easy. It takes some courage to do, but its fairly simple. As a member above posted, the trim is the hardest part. Taking it out requires some courage, it requires a bit of force to get it started, but then it comes up easily. Also there are a few shortcuts that I've learned doing them.
yea 40-50% ive driven tls thinking they have the short shift in and then im like wtf??!?! this doesnt feel "normal" plus it says that percentage on comptechs site and intructions for the piece. easy to install just take your time its quite a few pieces to remove and reinstall... and start peeling your trim from the elbow rest.

I rather not remove the center console , esp knowing how painful it is to take it out. I'm going to take the car in for service because the 3rd gear is grinding too much and I don't want them to void the warranty if a short shifter is in there.
So sounds like overall the stock shifter is quite short then? The car is completely stock so I would be surprised if the owner changed the shifter without mod'ng anything else.
base model is AT? I did say I was a newbie ;-)

I took mine in for the syncro recall and im all better.
ifi when people refer to the base model 04-06 it usually means the Auto model because the stick model wasnt really a base model you wouldnt find it sitting there on the dealer floor... it was harder to get you had to request it when you went to the dealer.
i just thought it was base and type-s.
thanks guys. I'm taking the car in next week for the 3rd gear issue, hopefully they won't complain about the short shifter (if I indeed have it). I'll keep you guys posted.
