Checking out batteries...found this gem:

Lithium Iron (yes, it's really "iron" not "ion")...540 CCA...5 lbs (yes, 5 freaking pounds!! Inaccurate will love this)...$283...40 less pounds...done and done...ordering soon...

Thanks! Yea, for the price, wieght, and strength it puts out, it actually seems to be a pretty darn good deal...especially if your battery is kinda already on its way out...

40 pounds off the front end just like that! That is, if you're going from stock to this...Villo, are you already running a lightweight battery?

It may be a little pricey, but a 40lb difference off the front end should help with handling, braking, and accelerating at the track and street...

The Odyssey PC680 (15.4 lbs, 220 CCA) goes for about $130 with terminals...the Braille B2317 (17 lbs., 641 CCA...but that number may be overrated) goes for about $170 or Braille B2015 (15 lbs, 574 CCA...again, may be overrated) goes for $160...I might spend a little more coin for the real good stuff...

probably had it going on a year now. It does just fine for me, I need the cranking amps cuz my battery is mounted above the fuel tank more or less so it's a ways from the starter.

Yea, I've had my eye on the Braille for a while...then I saw the Shorai and 5lbs seemed very tempting...it's a tough choice, an extra 10lbs off for an extra $100...hmmm...

There comes a point where you're gonna pay close to $100/hp if you're N/A and losing 10lbs is roughly equal to gaining 1 hp, so if it has good reviews then go for it. I'd be nervous having a 5lb battery in my DD. Think I might get the 17lb Braille.

Very true about the price per hp...about being nervous, yea, it's a little bit of a concern, but lithium iron technology seems pretty legit. And 540 CCA is pretty much what OEM is (550). Now it just comes down to, is it really worth the price...or will a 15/17 lb Braille be good enough...

I think both Swoosh and Inaccurate are running the 11.5lb Braille, and that's only $158. Probably the best bang for the buck from a weight savings standpoint.

You're right, Swoosh has the 11lb. but in his "TL without a battery" thread he said he had to jump it whenever it got below 50 degrees...he said he was thinking about getting the 17 lb...

The 15 lb is about the same price and *should* be better in colder temps...the 17 lb would have no problems...

15lb. Braille:
Amazon Amazon

17lb. Braille:
Amazon Amazon

Choices, choices....

I didn't see that thread. That would suck!

I'm in NY, so I'm definitely going with the 17. You should be fine with the 15.

At 5lbs It would be worth every penny even if you just swapped this battery in durring event/track days.

Do these batterys have to live on a charger when the car is not used for a couple days ?

I'm thinkin the same...just use it for track weekends...

And no, you don't need a charger...if the car is gonna sit for a couple days or more you could simply disconnect the battery. These lithium iron batteries don't lose their charge nearly as quickly as lead acid batteries when disconnected.

I have been running the 15 lb braille for over a year now. No issues starting the car, even in sub 50 weather.

If you leave the car sitting with the battery hooked up it will go dead in roughly 5-7 days. You can disconnect battery, but I also have a trickle charger I use at night sometimes.

Peter if you buy the braille do not get the 11lb battery....I have the 11lb-er and it just doesnt have enough CCA to start the car up when the weather dips into the 50's....

if you live in a place where the weather stays about 50's then 11lb-er is the perfect battery for you.....I would recommend the 17-lber.....

What about the explosion risk with Lion batteries?

FWIW you can buy that amount of lipo in 4s4p configuration for like $88
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...case_pack.html

20AH, 14.4v. Hardcase, should supply 400A continuous 600A burst.

This might help.
http://endless-sphere.com/forums/vie...p?f=14&t=41931

Edit- you might want to invest in a balance charger to balance the pack periodically.
