RV6 V3 Jpipe bought and installed today with pics and comparison shots!

I have had some time off work and couldnt help myself but to drive up to RV6's shop up in Bloomingdale to get this new V3 Jpipe. I had a used one on a previous Type S so I was familiar with the pipe and install. This one was brand new and man that thing is like a work of art. Quality and fitment were flawless! Install was straight forward with no issues. I have a very low mileage 08 Type S that pretty much has never even seen rain so the under carraige looks like new and even though the factory bolts were tight, they were nothing that I couldnt get apart myself. The only thing worth mentioning and im not sure if something is different on my 08 Type S compared to my previous 07's, or the Jpipe was slightly revised, but I did NOT have to trim the black under carraige panel. On a previous install I had no choice because it was smack dab in the way. On this one the exhaust pipe was located about 3/4" above that panel. IMO its plenty far away that there will be no melting issues. So I was happy about that so less installation work, and absolutely no modifying any parts of my car.

Took the car for a drive and everything seems to work great. Man, now im really thinking about completing the system and going with Richie's true dual exhaust ;-)

OMG your car's undercarriage is so clean....and i am confused as to why the 07 and 08 tl-s would be different in the jpipe design...anyone else with an 08 tl-s want to chime in?

so how is your review of this jpipe? any rasp with a stock exhaust like how some people have with the rv6 v3 jpipe paired with an aftermarket exhaust?

i agree...that undercarriage is immaculate!

i believe they are the same j-pipe, and always have been. i'm thinking that the plastic gaurd piece is shaped differently on his 08 type-s VS the 07's, but i could be wrong. just thinking out loud.

looks good, james!

Like I said I cannot say for sure if anything is different, but I found it odd how I did not have to modify that splash panel, where as on my previous 07 Type S it had to be cut otherwise it would not fit. In the picture I know it looks like its touching, but it is not. I was able to just slide a finger through the gap which I thought was perfect. As for how it feels driving, well I finished it last night at about 11pm so I only drove it around the block. Sound wise there is very little change noticeable inside the car. When I first started the car I did notice a slightly different tone when outside the car and maaaaybe just a tad louder. Again, its so minimal that if someone installed a jpipe on your TL without you knowing you would have no clue someone changed a big part of your exhaust. Performance wise I will report back later, but again im not gonna be one of those people that claims it feels insane because I know that the amount of power jpipes claim to add is respectable, but I still dont think its something people can come out and say without a doubt they feel.

Mine is an 08, I have the same Jpipe.

The plastic undercarriage trim came close enough but didn't touch the jpipe. It still melted a little so I opted to trim it and be done with it.

On my older 04 TL instead of trimming it I just bent it down some and never had any issues either. No trimming. Just bend the metal piece that goes supports the plastic down to dip a little where it gets close to the jpipe and you're good. It will hold.

^^^ yeah thats a good way too since there is a metal bar going from front to back on the splash gaurd so it can be bent downward slightly as well to avoid cutting.

Same here, luckily I've had the pleasure of hearing it in person (Rockstar143) but he got such a good deal on it I don't blame him for picking it up.

It does look like a great system, just can't justify the price. Especially on my 5AT

Yeah I would love to get the V2 exhaust, but even myself someone who loves cars and tinkering with them im not even sure I could bring to myself to spend that kind of money on a catback exhaust. Especially on a car that its not even going to really make any faster. Then again, so why did I even buy the jpipe? LOL shit who knows.

ahahaha its just impulse purchases after spending too much time on the forum reading about other ppls mods!

on the other hand, I hope you keep your 08 tls really clean, its a great car as is, simple mods like jpipe and tint are nice but i hope you dont end up cutting up a bunch of stuff for mods. a clean type s is getting more and more rare as it ages!

As long as this car remains in my hands it will be kept extremely clean. Im as anal as it gets when it comes to my vehicles. As for doing mods to the car, im the kind of person that only really does things that can be completely un-done. So much so that I was sooo happy when VLed's came out with the V3 Triton LED's because they are 100% plug and play. Even down to not having to splice any wires for the resistors. Thats how picky I am I didnt even want to splice into my factory wiring...as if this car is some sort of Ferrari or something (yeah right lol) But on a more serious note thats exactly how I am I like to keep things clean, simple, and as unmolested as possible.

After spending more time behind the wheel the car does feel pretty good. if anything I notice it at lower to mid range RPM's compared to up top. not sure if thats where the RV6 V3 is supposed to shine or not, but thats what seems to have woken up slightly. As for exhaust note, same thing, it seems sometimes around 2-3000 rpm the engine sings with a slightly different tone now. I like it and am 100% satisfied with my purchase. And the good thing is even if someday I want to remove it, that thing will sell like hotcakes here on the black market. Gotta love the forums

lol funny you ask that. Well the original owner told me that the car only saw rain a handfull of times. I bought it from him with 24,000 miles a couple months ago. Since I have owned the car it is my only vehicle so yes I do drive it in whatever weather there shall be, however my wife is a stay at home mom/wife and I do have the luxury of driving her 04 Accord whenever I want. So there are times where I just keep the Type S all cleaned up in the garage.
