Quick rip after installing the X merge. Sounds a little raspy from the cell phone's microphone, sounds much much better in person.

Nice to meet you, Oscar! Nice car bro. LOVE that KBP. Looking forward to that exhaust upgrade.
I should have taken you for a ride in mine so that you could have heard it from inside. There really isn't any rasp with the HFPC setup. Next time!

True and true
The little rasp there is is amplified on the cell phone videos. It's much less in reality. I had much more rasp when I had the XLR8 exhaust and j pipe. There's no audible rasp from inside the car at all, and what little you hear outside sounds more like a racy engine than an annoying metal rasp. It's all good.

With my current setup, including the PnP stuff, my experience is this: little bit of drone below 2500RPMs that goes away by the time it hits 3k, then a nice engine sound until 4k when the manifold butterflies open up, at which point it growls and continues to growl all the way through vtec, only that vtec sort of fine tunes the pitch a bit. Hard to describe in words, but it's a good sound all the way across the band. Sounds better outside the car. The drone at low RPMs is similar to a mustang v8.
It can be driven rather quietly if light on the throttle

Forgot to mention that the above is from inside the car. From the outside it just sounds nasty and catches your attention if you're on the throttle. Light throttle will largely go unnoticed in traffic commute, just an easy rumble, but any car enthusiast close enough will still know you've got something there.

Would you say you have drone in 6th gear at 70-75 mph?

I'm looking for that perfect growl like a 350z or BMW 5 series. With this kit installed, will I have to mod or delete anymore cats to get that perfect growl sound without the sound of raspy exhaust?
Im looking to purchase this with the jpipe and HPFC with it.

The exhaust comes with a resonator from RV6. Talk to Richie if you'd like to explore the idea of two resonators perhaps?
Our TLs tend to "growl" when the manifold opens up around 4k RPMs and this exhaust, like any other aftermarket one, will enhance and amplify that sound. So yea you'll have your growl but it's a little different than a z. It's our own engine sound.
I suggest not to worry too much for now, install everything when you get it so you can hear it live vs on a PC, drive around for a couple of weeks without touching it to get over the initial difference vs stock and once you get used to it see how you like it
Also, sound is one thing but I also luv the low and mid range power with this setup you don't need to be in vtec to get the car moving. Decent low end punch and once the mani opens up it starts to take off. By "setup" I mean HFPCs / PCDs + j pipe + exhaust.

My car is down at the moment waiting on a new battery and I hardly use 6th gear because it's such a tall gear, but there will be drone if below 2500rpms. With the radio above a ~4 on the volume it starts to drown out the drone. You can also drop it to 5th gear and still get good mileage there.

So you're telling me anything below 2500rpm there will be drone? Wow.

A little, not much. The drone reducing technologies bring it down a lot and probably eliminate altogether on a stock car, but if you do HFPCs or PCDs and a j pipe there will be some. It's not much, similar to a stock v8.

She's back!
70-80 drone only in 6th gear
40-50 drone starts in 4th at 40 and it's gone by 50mph
Hope this helps. Manual transmission don't know about auto.

Confusing Name Guy
Auto in general is very drone prone in 5th cruising from 100 km/h (62 mph) to about 120 km/h (75 mph) so I imagine it would probably be a bitch in this case, but that's just me theorizing

Keep in mind with stock cats I don't think drone will be an issue. Maybe someone with just the exhaust and maybe a j pipe on stock cats can comment?

6th gear will drone around 65 MPH (but seriously nobody drives at that speed) once you get up to about 73ish MPH it goes away. I find that around 2000 rpm to 2500 rpm in overdrive (5th) or double over drive (6th) you will get minor drone. Go above this and it's very civil. 1st,2nd,3rd and 4th don't have drone with the way I drive, notice all of those gear ratios are greater than 1.00.
Vlad- you should come to King Motorsports Dyno day, last year I was the only TL I blame ILC for selling his sweet Type-S.

Btw drone in my car starts around 1500-1800 RPMs and go away between 2500-2800 RPMs, it's only for ~1,000 RPMs.

I just bought my TYPE S 2 weeks ago, I been doing a lot of research about this kit and I absolutely love the sound and the gains this kit can have. Am I too late to put my Downpayment for one? I was also wondering if I added the jpipe and HFPC with the tru dual RV6 exhaust, will I pass emissions or will the engine check light come on since the cars been deleted.

Not sure what you mean, this was a test drive at the request of another member who PM'd me, to see where the drone was. I usually cruise around 3-4k RPMs, with plenty WOT and vtec moments on a daily basis, but not in a crazy way.
No check engine light on mine. Car runs fine on stock ECU.

At 9 as of today. Going to start ordering parts soon.
No it is not too late. No check engine light passing depends on the state.

In terms of adding the jpipe and hfpc you should still pass emissions and I don't believe you will get a check engine light.[/QUOTE
