Richie (or anyone else who wants to chime in...) - I have a couple questions I was hoping you could help me with:
First, the only reason I haven't purchased PCD's is because emissions testing is mandatory here in Utah and includes a smog test PCD's would likely cause a failure since I've already got your jpipe w/no 3rd cat. Will these HFPC's risk an emissions failure since the cell count is dropping from 900 to 200? Especially considering I have no 3rd cat?
Also, any idea what the weight of these cats are compared to stock? I'm guessing a little lighter due to decreased cell count? Your j-pipe is much lighter than stock so I was hoping to lose some weight with these as well.
Lastly, these bolt directly to the j-pipe correct? And come with all the required hardware? Or will we need the existing hardware for installation? The reason I ask is because when I installed the j-pipe, some of the bolts on the cats were so rusted that they stripped when I removed them using a breaker bar. I managed to get them to work, but new hardware would be awesome

haha funny!
you should be ok, with the hfpc and the o.e jpipe and 3rd cat iam certain you will pass smog. with the pcd its a for sure thing you wont pass smog even with a 3rd cat. play with your car, be safe and have fun.
note: passing smog w/hfpc & o.e 3rd cat is only my opinion

I'd like to know how difficult of an install it is because I'm also in the market for HFPC's and don't mind re-installing the stock setup before a smog every 2 years. It's definitely worth the gains.

^ - We're not as tight as you guys in Cali, but they've cracked down on emissions here in Utah in the last few years so I wouldn't be suprised if I run into trouble with the HFPC's and my third cat delete. Based on others reviews it looks like PCD's and HFPC's are a bit of a pain to install, so reinstalling the OEM cat's will probably be my last resort if I fail.
I think there's a few options before reinstalling OEM cats that I'd try. This motor is pretty clean running to start with. But I'd make sure your oil is clean (a fresh oil change before emissions wouldn't hurt), that you have relatively new plugs, and that the car is nice and hot so the cats are at full effectiveness before taking it in. If that fails, use some of this: http://www.autobarn.net/ch05063.html
I've never used it on newer cars but it's done wonders for a few older vehicles that I've had to get through emissions.
Last ditch effort, put the jpipe and 3rd cat back on. That's a much easier job (I believe) than swapping the cats. But we'll see it about a week when I do that job

I wanted to add some extra cooling to the HFPC do yuo think if i add Some Flex Seal Before I Install them Will They Keep Them Cooler They Says It Turns into rubber that holds 1200F and wont melt And It Tough Rubber Will that Keep Them Cool Down.
What do yuo think?

Catalytic converters run less efficiently when running cooler than normal. Your best bet would be to get the optional ceramic coating to keep the cats running at the right temperature but also keep some of the heat out of the engine bay.

PCDs and HFPCs are still listed as $40 off, as well as the combos with the J-pipe being marked down...unless that's a mistake. You can get the PCD/J-pipe combo for $683 with the code.

lol. 500-600 bucks for HFPC's is a drop in the bucket relatively speaking when you are talking about modding the TL. It's costly to mod just about anything on this car.
I think I went through 3k in 2012 not including tires, and I don't have my running total yet for 2013 but it's at least 6k so far with heads, new wheels/tires, Flashpro, and a spare set of type-s cams to get out for my regrind.
and i haven't even sent my cams out for the regrind yet which is probably 700 bucks, and i also have to buy PCD's (hopefully mitigating that cost by selling my HFPC's), and I have to buy new valve springs still, and coilovers...and....god dammit i have an addiction...
well you get the picture. Just put the order in with Richie, it's worth it and you won't be disappointed.
PUSH THE BUY BUTTON ALREADY. Richie's products kick ass.

Lmao. Don't thank me thank richie. He posted it earlier in the thread. As for keeping it cool...wtf was right. Just choose ceramic coating option. Just buy them new and support a good vendor. When u consider the price u will pay for them used plus a gasket kit then it makes more sense to buy them new. Here's a little secret. If u need a jpipe buy them both new from richies website in his package deal. U will end up getting both parts cheaper new then buying them individually used.

i just have to re-iterate how F'ing awesome richie is.
I mean I literally put in an order for my PCD's yesterday at 2:30 in the afternoon and I already have them. Not even 24 hours later.
Granted I live like 1.5 hours from his shop only, but still. Dude got them shipped out same day, with my extra gaskets, and I'm ready to go and install them today.

Re-reading through the post, I noticed my questions about passing emissions with these high flows. If anyone's interested, I had no problems passing emissions with the HFPC's and no 3rd cat. I was still well under the maximum allowed emissions. Also, they are lighter - by about 6 lbs. each.

I have installed PCD's on my '05 TL, and then swapped them to my Type-s (with new gaskets of course), and on both cars it sounds like ass on a cold start-up for 15 seconds and then levels out. I think it's just a byproduct of the PCD's.
Same thing happened with my buddy's M3 when we put his Status Gruppe headers on, which are catless.
In contrast, my HFPC's don't make any abnormal sounds on startup at all. Installed them about 8 months ago now and never had a noise issue on startup.

I purchased my HFPC's / J-Pipe combo last night for a great price, ohhh and I got the PC's ceramic coated as well. I am really looking forward to installing them this weekend or early next week. Next step will be Hondata FlashPro and possible RV6 True Dual exhaust.
Rich was super quick responding to my questions last night.
Read everyone's reviews and watch the many videos on YouTube. They seem to be the first/must install.

not so sure about that being a gasket issue, unless you can hear a "fwap fwap fwap" when you give it gas, in which case you have blown gaskets and an exhaust leak, lol.

ooops, then I will be waiting for a while. I did not know that it would take that long, but I am patient.
I took out the stock air resonator and all the tubing today. Next I will start on the Ultimate Cooling Mod.

I have emailed and PMed you. We need confirmation of address from anyone that throws a AVS flag. This is pretty common I am sure members will tell you that is is okay. Wish we didn't have to worry about fraud but we loose thousands of dollars a year because of it.

i think i remember reading somewhere that the tl-s doesn't benefit from that mod. i could be wrong but im sure someone else can confirm this. go with the aem v2. the sound it produces alone is worth the money imo
