Royal Purple or Amsoil?
After reading several posts on full syn oils, I have decided that next oil change is either Royal Purple or Amsoil. Anyone try both? Any imput on either oil would be helpful!
Thanks,

I use Royal purple 5-20 and a wix filter now...I talked to a guy at RP and was talking to him about the XPR 5-20 and he said he used that in his drag car, after the end of a season and a tear down, couldnnt really see any wear...I was thinking of trying it...but even at my employee discount its hard to spring $147 for a case...

I have no experience with Royal purple, but I have experience with Amsoil. Several years ago I used Mobil 1 and sent samples of used oil over a period of time to blackstone labs for analysis and switched to Amsoil (back then the oil I used was called series 2000 5w30) and did the same on my old Nissan. I drove around 5k miles then drained and collected the samples.
The oil change recommendation by the lab for the Mobil 1 was 7k intervals. When I switched to Amsoil and sent in samples they recommended 10k intervals. I used Amsoil SDF oil filters for both oils. Can't argue with unbiased test results.
Now in my TL I use Amsoil oil with Mobil 1 extended performance oil filter.

Sorry my ass had a brain cramp I ment Hamp lol
Introducing Japan Honda's aftermarket line of automotive products..."HAMP Synergy". HAMP Synergy are aftermarket products designed by Honda and are a step up from the "Honda Original Parts" products. Not meant to compete with racing produts, however, these pieces are quality. The HAMP oil filter can be used on any Honda, but was specifically designed for use in the Type-R and S series cars in mind. Features include a unique release valve that dynamically adjusts to the conditions within the filter to keep the oil flow and pressure constant. The HAMP oil filter will last longer and filter better than any of the oil filters currently on the market.
Now those but for the S2000 which is a larger diameter filter....![Too Cool](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/toocool.gif)
and um that purple stuff is $6 a quart....

I have tried amsoil and mobile one synthetic I would say that the royal purple is the way to go if you feel the extreme viscosity is worth the price .I finally decided to put
Elf racing oil as a comprimise. The elf exillium is superb and the engine runs more
quietly and after 2000 kms is still looks gold and clear. The oil meter in the car did not move from 100 percent for 1500 kms and from what I remember the amsoil broke down alot faster.I hope this is helpful.

(5w30) well the elf stuff is what $9 a bottle, the royal stuff is $6 a bottle and the amsoil is $8
I am confused why there is a problem with going with the best out of the 3, I was reading up on the royal stuff and it says 1.5-2.5hp increase? is that right, lol....

Amsoil owns Royal Purple. Amsoil created synthetic oil and can outlast and protect most oils on the martket. Check out their tests on their website. I've used many oils and Amsoil is tops!

Does weight have to do anything with how much it protects?
I see some of you running 0w20, 5w20, and 5w30.
What is recommended? Will weight effect how well the oil pump works and lubercats the engine?

I just changed my oil today and flushed my ATF (both amsoil). I've been putting amsoil in my car since the 3rd oil change. Always runs very nice, I never sent the oil to the labs to test, but I've been quite happy with it, and the car still runs very well.

Drain the ATF fluid. Fill the ATF fluid. It's 3 quarts each time. It's not a complete flush, there's still ATF in the transmission. I've done it twice. Factory recommends first ATF drain at 60,000, but I did mine at 25,000 given Honda's track record...

I have no experience with the Purple but I do have experience with Mobile 1 and Amsoil. I can only offer a little info since our cars don't have enough miles to really tell a difference. Most of us have <60k and at this point the motor would still be alive and well if you ran $.99 off brand oil for it's entire life. I currently run Amsoil 5-30 and the Amsoil S2000 filter. The difference I noticed over Mobil 1 is the valvetrain noise my car (and every TL I've heard) has had since day 1 is gone. Take it for what it's worth. I will stay with Amsoil for the rest of it's life. I would put more weight on what the guy who had oil analysis done says.

CASTROL GTX FTW!!!!! Uh, sorry, did I say that out loud?
Guys, let's be real, if you drain between 4500 and 5000mi for regular driving that does not involve extended driving at or near redline, or in dusty areas (in other words, suburban traffic), is $8/qt oil warranted? Of course, that said, I run M1...... Honestly, I'm not sure I dig it all that much, it's very black at drain time as recommended by the MID, so I may switch to Amsoil. Or GTX..
