Rotors to get by until RacingBrake comes in

I've got 134k miles on my TL and the rotors need replaced like now. I have a 6MT so we are talking about the Brembo setup here.

MrHeelToe is getting the 1-piece RacingBrake rotors which is exactly what I want and will buy, but I cannot wait the 8-14 weeks it will take for these to arrive. I have to do something now.

I have RacingBrake ET300s on my front brakes and there is only around 10k miles on them. The question is what can I do for rotors to get me by until the RacingBrake rotors are available. Can I get use the AutoZone Duralast rotors ($57 each)? Or do I really need to get something better like Stoptech? I do drive the car hard, but only street/highway.

The rears probably could use replacement pads, but really when I visually inspect them, they look fine. I'm going to put a micrometer on them this evening.

Just trying to not spend a fortune on rotors that just need to get me buy until the RacingBrake's are in.

Not interested in a lot of squeal either if you know what I mean.

Thanks!

I am hoping they will come sooner, but if you can't wait I'd get the cheapest thing possible.

Are you sure you even really need rotors? Is there violent shaking or cracking?

I hope they come sooner too but I talked to RacingBrake yesterday about my rear pads and rotors and they said they were looking at 12-14 weeks for the 1-piece rotors for the Brembo front. He could be wrong though.

As long as I'm good with the cheapys from AutoZone, I'll pickup some of those today.

The shake has become violent. At highway speeds coming onto an off-ramp is is very noticable and especially if I have to slow down quickly because people in my town can't drive. It's to a point where I question whether or not I can actually stop in time should I need to stop suddenly. I've been changing brakes on my cars and other people's cars for fifteen years and it feels dangerous to continue driving with the current rotors.

I will put a micrometer to it tonight, but there is a decent size lip on the rotor, plus grooves, plus the fairly violent shaking when I brake.

Definitely let me know when those RacingBrake rotors come in because I want those, just have to get something to get me by for a few months.

Rockauto has them for $31.79 each, but yo've got to add shipping and probably 3 days.

Does the steering wheel walk at all at low speeds as well?

The only thing to be concerned about is the shake, and if it only does it at high speeds a rebedding should help. Maybe more aggressive pads are in order.

You could see if anyone in the forum has their stock rotors for you use until you receive yours. Might want to try to post up in the black market or regions forum.

Take them off and cut them. The parts stores don't care how much under factory specs they are. They will hold you for a few months as long as you're not trying panic stops from 70-0. I'd also leave the same pads on there even though they will be grooved. They wear down or you can take a grinder to them and even them out as long as there is material remaining.

Micrometer reads 22.947 at the best spot.

I have RacingBrake ET300 pads on the car with right at 10k miles. They look good and are, I would think, more aggressive than OEM but ET500s were going to be my next step up. I don't track the car so I went with the ET300s.

Since cutting/resurfacing is out given the measurements I've got, I guess a question is going to be what I need to do with my ET300 pads and the new/used rotors I put on here. I've always replaced both at the same time but won't be this time. I'm assuming since there are grooves in my rotors that there are grooves in the pads.

The grooves should naturally wear down right? I can do a bedding procedure on them, but should I be thinking about anything else?

Thanks!

Turbonut, sorry, I responded too quick to see your comment about the grooves. So, the pads, there is a lot of material left. Should I mess with them or just put them on the replacement rotors? If I were to grind them, would I use a circular grinder or something else?

Just as some additional info on the ET500....while they are an entry level track pad they really are a great street pad as well. They are one of the best pads I've seen for doing double duty. I am using the ET500 on my TSX and love them for the street. A little more dusty than stock but nothing near european car dusting levels.

There is no problem replacing the pads now and the rotors later. The pads should help smooth out the rotors really. Even if the pads get some odd wear all will be resolved when they are bedded in on the new rotors later.
