Rotor Life

My Dad has a 07 TL Type-S and needs new brakes soon and we plan on going with new pads. The question is how long do rotors typically last if we were to have them cut? I am trying to figure out whether to get new rotors or just go with pads for now. The car has around 18K on it now and he does not drive the car hard ever.

do the rotors have signs of wear like hotspots or a shimmy when braking from high speeds (60+)? If not, no need to cut them or replace them. I would highly advise when the brakes are changed that you stand there when they put on the rims and make sure the lugs are torqued in the proper order and to 80 FT Lbs. of torque to be sure that the mounting process does not damage the rotors.

Believe it or not, my rotors were cut for the 1st time at 35k, then swapped a new one at 66k.

Recently changed pads, but no shake, shimmy, etc, so left the rotors alone. Working great.

If you turn/cut the rotors (unecessarily) you'll just reduce their useful life. The thinner they are, the more likely they'll warp/build pad material.

Based on all I've read about the Brembo barkes on the TL/TL-S, I'll be happy if the rotors last 2 sets of pads. Surprised if they make it though 3 sets.

I think also the life of the Brembo Pads & Rotors depends a LOT on how you drive. Any heavy braking at all seems to really accelerate the wear rate.

I agree with Bearcat94 and csmeance. Don't cut your rotors unless you have a vibration. You should be able to get 2 sets of pads out of each set of rotors. Upgrading to a ROTORA ceramic H2 pad is a good alternative for the TL-S since the ROTORA pads have less dust and still good bite.

Thank you all for the feedback and replies. I have decided on Hawk Ceramic pads for the front and rear, however I am running into a small roadblock. I am having trouble determining the correct part number for the rear pads. The Hawk website states the part number as #HB572Z.570 and some other websites state the part number as #HB145Z.570

Any thoughts? Anyone have any experience with this?

Search on our webstore. It will show you the correct part #'s.

I did and the numbers on your website match the numbers on the Hawk website. However, if you go to Heeltoe's or Tire Rack's website it shows the other number. All three of you are respected and knowledgeable vendors so I'm simply trying to identify the correct part number prior to ordering. I am hoping someone else on here has ordered these and can provide some insight.

Quick update, the difference in part numbers appears to have to do with how the rear brakes are set up. Some TLs apparently have an integrated parking brake setup in the rear while others have a drum style setup. I'm still attempting to wrap my head around this, don't all TLs (same year/trim) come the same way? Anyone who has done a brake job already, please step in.

HB530Z570 is the front
HB145Z570 should be able to be used on the rear
