quick question-gearheads
alright, i like to think i know enough about cars, the basics and then some but i was just wonering, why do only half of the cylinders fire at a time? like on a four cylinder only two pistons are are used per revolution, wouldn't it make more power if all of them fired. I know the pistons skip a spark when the other two were fired, but why?
thanx in advance.

Piston comes up during the exhaust stroke. 4-strokes take 2 engine revolutions so only half the cylinders are ready to fire on each revolution.

1st stroke=(SUCK) intake valves open, piston going down sucking air.
2nd stroke= (SQUEEZE) intake and exhaust valve close, piston going up to begin its compression
3rd stroke (BANG) is when the piston reach the TDC (top dead center) it will start its combustion process, mixing compress air, fuel and sparks. This combustion will push the piston down (power stroke}
4th stroke- (BLOW) intake valves closed, piston going up and exhaust valves open
