The front bar is beefy enough as it is...you can always upgrade to the Type-S one. Same diameter but its solid instead of hallow like the base model. RSB is a must though....

All I've read says getting to the Front Sway Bar is a PITA.

Plus, as far as I understand, beefing up the Front Sway Bar (i.e. increasing torsional stiffness) will INCREASE understeer. IOW - it's the opposite of beefing up the RSB. (Hopefully, I've understood that correctly).

Progress RSB is an awesome improvement....H&R makes a front and rear sway bar for the 3rd gen, according to their website

i wouldnt get a FSB, it may be nice to beef up to the TL-S solid instead of hollow, but in reality being FWD you focus on the problems in the rear more often, hence the RSB.

imo RSB is a better investment than any power adder and should be a FIRST to any upcoming modder

does it stiffen up the ride and if so how bad... I went from the Tl 04 6speed to 06 AT and really feel the difference in cornering between those two cars... so im really thinking of doing that mod but is 24mm an overkill or not >?>?

A sway bar does not twist unless one wheel moves up or down than the other, so it doesnt stiffen up the ride unless you go over a pothole or diagonally over speed bumps (or corner hard).

Contact any of the vendors on here. MrHeelToe, or Excelerate can get you the sway bar.

Progress is 24mm, adjustable, and a solid bar. It is the preferred brand IMO.

I understand the purpose of sway bars, but at the risk of getting , what are the negative effects of having too stiff of a sway bar?

In theory, oversteer. In reality, on TL, very, very, very doubtful. You'd have to add a lot "circumstance" for an RSB to cause oversteer.

OTOH, the RSB's for the TL are not "too stiff". They are "stiff enough"; but the car still has an understeer bias.

Worst case, real-world, you're pushing it through a turn, near the limit, but OK. Then you catch a bump in the road and it throws you side-ways. (In which case you were going to fast for conditions in the first place.)

Alright, so I forgot what position my Progress RSB is in (street, track). How can I figure out what position its in?

Just look at the connetion points.

RSB connected at the outer/end/furthest hole = "street" or "soft".

RSB connected at the inner/closer hole = "track" or "firm".

Think of it in terms of leverage; the longer the bar, the easier it is to bend, the softer the setting. The "firm" setting effectively shortens the RSB by, say, an inch or so.

I agree. I have the progress rsb that i purchased from excelerate (I highly recomend him). I tried with great vigor to get my car to oversteer and I haven't been able to do it yet. I will say that one time I turned so hard that one of my rear wheels lifted of the ground. It was Fun!!!

So another negative is that you lose some of the independent character of the independent rear suspension. At the extreme, with a beefy rear swaybar, the inside wheel will lift off the ground and that causes reduced grip. For that reason, race cars will attempt to achieve the reduced body roll in corners through an increase in spring rate. For passenger cars, we have to strike a compromise between a tolerable ride and body roll.

Oh and BTW, I have the Progress 24mm sway bar on the stiffest setting and love it.
