Pro Cats CEL P0430

Hello All:

I started getting a CEL with a code of P0430. It has something to do with the "cats", so if I need to replace them what should I use?

I understand there are "Pro Cats" available, but I can not find any info on them.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

the SC deteriorates any type of cat whether it is the OEM or the Pro Cat. With the Pro Cats you will get more HP and TQ but the will die in time because of the SC contact Josh aka excelerate he will help you out with the Pro Cats

The only folks here to report cat failure from SC use have been using methanol injection. There MANY folks here that have been running the SC for tens of thousands of miles without issue.

This problem could very easily be casued by a bad O2 sensor...

The inside of your converter probably looks something like a snake hole. Here's what mine looked like...

...Just contact Josh under the username Excelerate, who is the guy that distributes the E-Shift Pro-cats. They're cheaper then the OEM's, so in order to fix it this is the way to go.

Is it true that with the pro cats you wont pass the visual inspection of the smog test?

The real question here is "What actually caused the damage?" That should be figured out. Also, if the SC was not tuned well and its running lean, the exess heat will burn the cats in a relatively short time. I would suggest trying to find out what the cause of the problem was.

There's no "tuning" of the SC. It comes with a piggyback ECM module preloaded with the "tune". There's no custom A/F mapping taking place anywhere.

I've read a few issues here that all reported an issue with the fuel pressure regulator, and the "crush" process. Once that was fixed, they left the SC alone.

That is what I am talking about. Was the car put on a dyno and did it have the Wideband O2 on it? If it was just installed and they didn't check to see if it was "crushed" correctly, then there can be a problem. Just trying to help out, as it seems he will be wasting $1200 if he doesn't figure out the problem first.

Keep in mind for us CA guys, there is no CARB approval so you do run the slight chance of the smog tech not passing you on the visual

I have been thinking about the visual test, living in NorCal that stupid ass CARB is annoying as hell.

I have come to the conclusion that i do not care, you just really need to know someone who went to a spot and had the pro cats on.

Second most of the SMOG places have young kids wokring on them and probably cant tell the difference, or DO NOT care as long as you car passes.

Third, i would go to the shadiest lookin place i could fine if you don't know anyone who could give ya a reference

Hello:

The car was dyno at Church in SoCal. Doug from Hondata was there and all the settings looked great according to Doug and Shawn Church.

I will bring the car to the dealer on Monday to see if a BAD O2 Sensor is the problem. If the "Cats" are bad and they are under warranty I will have them replaced with stock cats.

If no warranty will be given, I will upgrade to Pro Cats..

Either way I will make sure the "numbers" are in line..

Thanks,

Tim

Yeah its not to hard to get around. Just putting the information out there so someone doesn't wonder why the car didn't pass.

I don't see how CARB is annoying as hell though. Hasn't drastically limited the options for the TL, or modding in general.

In terms of visual inspection no it won't pass but the Pro Cats are Metal Cats which have CARB and EPA stampings so they are designed to pass emissions test.

Also can we change the title of this thread? It is misleading. It makes it look like theh Pro Cats caused the CEL, when it really was the OEM cats.

Also to the OP as I spoke to you yesterday on the phone, keep in mind that if your OEM cats deteriorated there had to be a reason. The Pro Cats will last but if there is something amiss it may do the same to the Pro Cats after a prolonged period of time. I would check your A/F ratios and your EGT's.

I was under the impression that whoever has the charger, will run richer considering stock it already runs rich. As a result, eating away at the cats/pro-cats at a faster rate.

Either way, let me know if you northern cali guys decide to get it since I'd do it if I knew where to go to pass inspection.

One of the guys on here, according to his sig, has them (silver with the ron jon kit and rims that look like racing harts) and is apparently down in San Jose. I guess it's only a concern once we have to get our cars checked out. So I guess it depends on how long you plan on keeping the car.

Hey Subinf, how long is it before we have to get inspected? Is it every 8 years? Can't remember what you told me before.

The law has changed a little, but from what I understand you usually get 4 years of smog-free registration from the car's birthday, and then the smog check is required every other year. I think newer cars are allowed the smog abatement for 6 years, although I don't know much about that and will have to look it up.

Hello All:

I have changed the title of this email (I think).

A/F ratio was good when dyno at Church.

I will take car to dealer this morning and see what they say and report back to list.

Thanks,

Tim
