Is this possible?

I have been back and fourth over and over and am down to three decisions...

modify the TL
Buy an Evo IX (costly)
Buy 2001 audi s4 (the dealership is awful)

My question kind of lies within my TL...Its warranty is gone and it has a crap load of miles so I can pretty much do w/e I please to it. Here's some info:

2004 Acura TL AT/Sportshift

In 2004 there was no TL-S so I am curious....Can the 2007/8 TL-S Engine fit in the 2004 TL AT engine bay? Or was the car made bigger to fit? If so whats anyones point of view on a full engine AT to MT swap?

Is it pointless? Is it too costly?

OK heres my
- yes, you can swap the J35 (TL-S) engine into the base TL.
- tranny swap is too costly and not worth the money. Trade in is your best option, if dealerships still take 100k+ mile cars.

Don't get the Evo... you're 28, not 18. Enjoy your ride!

If I trade-in I'd want a TL-S if its another TL and the base hasn't come in a MT since 2004 has it? I could of sworn they made the Base Sportshift only.

2004-2006, any trim and transmission, 2007-2008 base with 5at, 2007-2008 TL-S auto or 6spd.

if you get the 04 in 6mt, you can always add the S/C for less than the price of a motor swap and have 4x the power of the TL-S motor.

Evo IX and TL are two totally different class vehicles. Depends on what you want to do with them. If you just want to cruise around keep the TL...if you want good race potential get the EVO. AWD rules on the launch...and there's plenty out there mod-wise to help ya out on the big end.

Yeah but if I buy a 2008 TL-S and put a S/C in it then i'd demolish the 2004 Base with S/C.

point of view i guess.

I want an assortment of things...Something that looks good and has power. the Evo IX has both. And in all views its going to be cheaper but it'll be used.

My personal opinion, I wouldn't be caught dead in an EVO, not at my age. EVO is and always will be a better starting point than a TL for performace. AWD and a factory turbo might not be much faster than a TL stock for stock but once you start throwing mods to both of them, the EVO is going to run away from the TL.

Even if you put down 500hp in the TL, you will still have a high 12 second car on street tires with FWD. The same power in an EVO will get you 11 or even high 10 second slips.

For me, the TL has much more class and for a daily driver I wouldn't trade it for an EVO. I would hate to be put in the same category as the typical person I see driving an EVO.

Well I just got a price quote for a 2008 TL-S for $31,152 from the Acura dealer I bought my previous TL from.

Thats not bad if I do a trade-in thats down to like $25,000 any thoughts or views on this?

What are you looking for in modding either of those cars? Did you want to be stupid fast or fast but look class? That would probably answer your own question.
I use to have a 99 awd eclipse that was modded out the ying yang. I got tired of the load noise from the 3" turbo-back exhaust. I do miss having a high 12 sec car, but I got the TL for looks and luxury nature. It's so happens that it's quicker than when I first bought it(bolt-ons).
It depends on what you what out of your car.

The Mitsu dealers here in NJ are scum. I'd never give them my business. Plus I think the Evo X's are hideous.

Why do you think $31,152 is a bad price for a 2008 TL-S? Wasn't the MSRP on these $38,000?

Explain...

^I just don't see the point in "upgrading" from a TL to a TL-S. $31k is a good price, though.

1) I don't see the power increase as that much or that big of a deal.
2) Looks better? That's a matter of opinion.
3) 100k? You should've mentioned that from the start.

It seems to me you want either a TL-S or an Evo and are looking for people to help you justify either one. Just go get which ever you want and don't worry about it. Given that keeping your current car isn't really an option, I'd get the Evo.

Well...again...the Evo/S4 are used (I'd prefer the s4 over the evo) the TL-S is new...i'm used to it...i love my TL. So it's def a contender.

Seems as though you waited to hit 100K on your current TL to begin modifying it, whats to say that once you get a new TL-S or the Evo with warranty remaining you wont be like "its still under warranty, dont want to mess with it"? I am assuming your TL is paid off now, why not just S/C that, and add some bolt-ons to get more HP than a TL-S??? I am from the world of driving it till it dies or gets killed....

I may be de-modding mine at the end of this season and have a whole lot of parts for sale. I just bought an RX-7 that I am going to do an LS1 V8 swap on. I need to keep mine as is until the end of the SCCA season though as I am competing is Street Mod class. Then hopefully I will have a Lotus Exige S to compete in next year as I am trying to close a deal on one right now that has a blown motor. Another rolling chassis. Woot!

Just because they can't find one doesn't mean they're not there. Call up other dealerships to find one, hopefully you'll find one in stock on the lot, then you can negotiate a better price.

I have...covered 90% of the east/midwest coast absolutely none.

The guy said in the US there is none left he said the 2008 production is dead and that he's have over 2 months requests for one and no one even has one nationally to do a swap.

I don't think he was kidding he sounded annoyed because I can imagine their losing business when people decline the AT model like I did.

That sucks man, I've had dealers in the past tell me a car wasn't available, then found it myself. Thats the only reason I suggested it.

Good luck!

It's not going well

Down to 3 different TL-S Manuals 2 (Texas, California) will do Dealer Swaps but only for TL-S Manuals. (Which there are 3!)

The third will not do a dealer swap. And wants me to go through them over the phone.

My Dealer: 31,152
Everyone else: 36,996

=/ I guess its back to the Evo/s4

How do you specify Manual TL-S on AutoTrader....doing Dealer Search just gives you 5,000 dealers websites with the # of TL's they own.

^Do a search by car (Find Your Car, I think). Check new cars only. Towards the bottom, there's a expandable section for advanced search options; open it and check off manual transmission.
