Performance options

What do you guys do to get more power out of your TLs. not just a stupid intake but real power?? The 6 Speeds are quick. I have a 475hp vette and the TL does not feel that much slower once VTEC kicks in.

Turbo or supercharger. Check out some of the threads on both subjects. Google "3G TL turbo". "3G TL Rotex supercharger". Some members have stuff on YouTube as well. You can check out my turbo build " Hi speed's race engine swap."

No offense, but when you say a "475HP Vette" Is it a C5 or C6, or a C3 that you bought used and someone sold you saying it had 475 HP?

I have a 2004 TL 6MT, and my prior car was an 01 Vette with a BIG cam. It made 425 RWHP and I can assure you that there was never a time when the TL felt close to the Vette in terms of power. Even a base 98 C5 auto is a good bit faster than a TL. My TL made 240 WHP - if you have a 475HP Vette, that's nearly double the power for about the same weight. Might be time to take the Vette in for service if it feels that close.

How much money do you have? Got about 10k laying around to throw into your TL for real power?

A 90s ZR1 should still make in the 320 - 330 rwhp area bone stock. Nearly 100 more wheel horespower and about the same weight... Johnny555, how many miles are on your car? At that age, I'd wonder if the cats are clogged causing a lack of performance.

I think you are taking OPs post a little too literally. He didn't say it is as fast. He said it feels like it, when VTEC kicks in (yo). Seeing as our cars stay in VTEC for only a couple seconds, meh, I can see the butt dyno being deceiving. No, I'm not saying they're the same. Not even close. Just feels fast through 1st and 2nd gear.

And c'mon, clogged cats robbing 100hp? That car would be running like absolute garbage.

or, you're right, someone bullshitted him when they sold him the car either way...

Andy built his engine internally...have we figured out how to bolt on boost without blowing up engines yet?

He just finished a build on a bone stock 3G type S. Theory is that the heat induced detonation is reduced with the SC and should be less prone to destruction. I think he's also working on implementing a standalone ECU.

He did finished a tls auto making 400+. I think the idea was the rotrex s.c does not generate as much heat as the conventional root and screw super charger. So you will always have cooler iat. I know with my turbo my iat is about 20-30 above ambient regular driving on meth.

But under the hood temp is awful and closer to 200 especially the side with the turbo

A roots/screw is the WORST type of supercharger for efficiency's sake. A centrifugal is pretty much a turbo but belt driven. I think the thought is that by not using exhaust to drive the turbine, it prevents back pressure and high temp exhaust. Also, being belt driven, boost is linear with rpm, which can reduce the torque hit that a turbo can generate. The 436 whp car he just did was on E85 as well, so make sure to take that into account vs other 91 or 93 setups, ESPECIALLY vs 91. Its probably an easy 50+ whp over 91, maybe even more.

If only you didn't have to lose AC with it.

I drive my car only 3000 miles a year, but in SC, removing AC is not an option. Andy is up north where its tolerable, lol.

yea it would be great to get a supercharger in there, but no AC is no option. and that's coming from someone who lives in san diego haha. my wife/family would not allow it, this car is driven year round

great to see he's come up with a decent FI solution

My buddy had a '98 auto C5 that I drove a few times, and I think it would have been very close against my TL, especially on a roll, but against a stock 6MT TL, the Vette would smash.

Andy mentioned to me that there is an option to put the SC in place of the power steering pump and replacing it with an electric pump. I think he also said that the plumbing it up to you as well.

You can use an accord hybrid electronic power steering pump.

That would be a perfect opinion since it is humid as hell right now. Need that A/C to dry the air, or we can learn not to breath.
