Maybe you should learn to search. There is a sticky. You're also 17 with no knowledge of simple car modifications and probably little-to-no knowledge on how to drive correctly-- I'd try to fix those two before you think of modding. Be thankful you got a TL, you're 17. (or because how sadly our TL has become with the prices fml-- i feel like im driving a civic now)

If money is an issue, you should move to a different platform. Nothing for this car is cheap.

Your best bet is to find a used Jpipe on the black market and have your resonator and or third muffler cut out (depending how loud you want your car). You'll be happy with the gain from the Jpipe and the (noise) from the third muffler and/or resonator delete.

with my exhaust i have taken out the mufflers and replaced them with straight pipe along with magnaflow exhaust tips and taken out all the resonators up to my cats so is it a noticable gain for the j pipe? There is a new one they were talking about the v2 i heard is really nice but no reviews on it yet.

Champ- I know how to drive well ive been driving stick for a while and i am good at driving and I do know a lot about cars so i dont like the way you make these assumptions based on me being 17. Just bc im 17 doesnt mean i cant drive haha and also i bought this car with my money and everything done to it is with my money just like everyone else

I'm sure some have bought. but there are no reviews.

the one thing i can tell you, is that it works the same as the RV6 v3 jpipe.

they both produce about the same gains.
they both have factory like clearance, no worries if you are dropped.

they both get rid of the 3rd cat.
they both cost about the same.

it all depends on who your preferred vendor is.
XLR8 is a great company, and josh has awesome customer service skills.

RV6 does great things for the TL community. Also, VERY great customer service

Alright because im like lowered to the max with the size tires i have and i am already scraping some. But yea my dad's friend Tom for European Imports said that by deleting the third cat there is a possibility of blowing your engine or something along the line of " Bad S*** could happen"

In Texas, we have very relaxed emission testing.

as long your car doesnt throw a CEL(Check engine light) then you will pass. in Texas, anyway.

^better to spend the money on the jpipe instead of the CAI.

I made great numbers with factory cold air system.

i can't argue with gains of a jpipe to a cai, but at 17, the butt dyno isn't quite that accurate yet. the sound from cai will add 15 HP

I guess it all comes down to what you want and the goals you have for the car.

the name of the game is to be educated.
if you can learn what each mod does to your car, then you've come out ahead.

dont slap on parts because they are cheap.
also, i read that you are having problems with oil consumption.
instead of throwing money at modifications. you should really take care of your car first.

There is a performance chip for the TL....its called the JnR ECU

Now this is what i suggest:
if you have emissions in your state, dont get precats...get jpipe....if no emissions get PCD's....

but yeah i agree with Justn....know the destination before you start....if you have a budget of only 2K, you not gonna get the turbo....

might as well get the PCD's, Jpipe and ECU....you will be looking at a solid 50HP from there right there....within 2K....

or you can get an aspec kit, drop the ride and do some tail light mods and you will look hell a lot cleaner with the same 2K....

your call

ok guys no need to break the kids balls if he isnt that knowledgeable, you all were at one point too. Hey man, as for chips, with some cars chips are produced and will increase performance but as stated, not for a TL platform, this is more likely in forced induction cars (turbo, superchargers) with which tunes make a world of difference. For naturally aspirated cars such as TLs (cars that do not use turbos or superchargers) there are many minor mods that can be used but will not result in the type of performance increase as a forced induction application would. Where i would start if i were you is a COLD AIR INTAKE, which are not very expensive, exhaust components which can be found thru the XLR8 site but can get pricy, and TIRES make a large difference in my opinion. I put BF goodrich g-force KDW tires on my TLS and i RIP off the line and take ramps at 80mph lol SO start there man and just do a little homework, this site is a great place to start.

PCD = Pre-cat deletes.

these straight pipes get rid of your primary cats.
as stated above, I am running catless. I have no cats. Meow.

this mod, by far is the best bang for the buck. but it does come with drawbacks or side effects.
since, it does replace the primary cats(meow) you will get a smell. like a gasoline weed whacker or a sport bike smell.

secondly, there will be an unpleasant sound at about 3.5k to 4.5k in RPM.
RASP! ewww!!! Meow!

3rd, not all states will pass you in emissions. Meow.

Dont worry about the ECU for now.
it is expensive at the tune of $1300 and with your car throwing CEL's and misfiring, you'll want to fix your car first.
Remember, to be educated is to be winning.
you need to read around a little.

^^^ I would get the PCD's....

the 2 products with gains over 20HP to the wheels are PCD ($400 right ?) and JnR ECU ($1225).....

they gain up upwards of 22-23HP and 24-25TQ....

either way, finish up your exhaust with PCD's and Jpipe and get the ECU and i think you should be GOLDEN !!!

Im thinkin im gonna get the v2 j-pipe and the PCD's i like the hp tq amounts a lot with just that i mean this car is already pretty fast. I mean not STI fast but I was going at it with an Chrysler SRT-8 and it did well those things are so fast haha but yea and also just putting this out there getting a mesh grille helps keep it cool under the hood a lot better than with the stock grille ive def noticed a difference.

All you've done there is change up the sound of the car. If you want real gains from the exhaust, you need to either buy one from the vendors or figure out a full custom setup that will actually produce noticeable gains.

You don't normally. It all depends on your state & possibly county's emission laws.

Justin can get away with no cats. In my region, I can only get away with a 3rd cat delete.

I can get away with no cats as well but I know the shop.. as long as you dont get a CEL you ok.. also the actual emission test itself passes with PCDs... well from what I heard of guys who have it and the read out is within passing parameters
