need info on pre-cat deletes

I have a 07 TL type s. Can anyone who has a pre-cat deletes on their TL (3rd Gen) tell me if it causes the check engine light to turn on. if so, is there a way to bypass it so it doesnt turn on? also, what is the best and cheapest way to go about doing this, should i just find some straight pipes to have a shop use or should i buy a pre-cat delete kit that has pipes with it?? ive heard people say you can just go find pipes from a shop and have them do it because its cheaper than kits and has the same effect. any suggestions would be great. thanks

first the whole phrase pre cat delete i dont get- there are 2 primary cats and a third secondary cat- to delete the 2 primary cats you can not just buy straight pipe as they are a bellmouth design that bolt directly to a log manifold- so buy a set from rv6 and it should come with angled defoulers for the 2 o2 sensors that are after the primary cats- these defoulers work 95% of the time on our cars and if the light ever trips u just reset it and keep going.
If you get rid of the third secondary cat no defoulers are necessary and you can do this by buying straight pipe and welding or a cheap test pipe but you exhaust will get smelly, your back bumper will turn black (cleanable) and any emissions station with a sniff tester will surely not pass you.

I just installed pcd's on my 07 Type-S and I got no check engine light. The defoulers work. Right now I think RV-6 is the only company making pcd's. The quality is great and the price is not bad at all. To have a shop do this would either be more expensive or not possible. If you get the pcd's you should also get a jpipe and remove the 3rd cat for better flow.

The V2 versions should not cause in CEL issues. And the confusion starts when people replace "primary" with "pre". These are "primary cat deletes" not "pre-cat deletes". If they were pre-cat deletes you would be eliminating the engine, and there are no gains there

It is what most people call them, and it is also what Richie calls them on his site, but I am not sure where that name came from. There is no such thing as a pre-cat in the Acura parts list. My guess is that these pre-cats are in a location before the primary cats in most vehicles, so when comparing these primaries to others car's primaries it would be considered the "pre-cat". But we have the primary cats and the secondary cat, which most call the "third cat".
