Mid Muffler Delete ?'s!

Im dieing to get an exhaust but funds are short right now, I wanna tide it over with a mid muffler delete. My family has been taking out cars to a shop we trust for years, if I take my car there what do I ask him to do? Is there a muffler on the main pipe and then one on each side when it branches off to the dual tips? Im confused as to exactly what to ask him to do.... thanks guys!

Just by looking at the performance sub forum, I was able to find two threads about this. Also, check the 3G Garage for some pictures. A quick look around the forum, and some ready, you should be fine.

If you walk in, if you ask him to remove the mid-muffler from the exhaust, and replace it with a straight pipe, he should know what you are talking about. If not, don't have him do the work.

Have you not ever looked under your car when you did an oil change?

its a square looking little muffler right passed the two mufflers connected to your exhaust tips(our cars have 3 mufflers) should be a pretty easy find its not the straight looking pipe piece (resinator) closest to the engine...

by the way ive had this done for a while now and love it; it sounds like you've purchased an aftermarket exhaust but only cost about $30 (the shop i went to just did it for free cause i know them and it was so easy) This is only considered stage 1 i believe it goes up to stage 3 maybe 4 of changing up the stock exhaust without going aftermarket search stage 1,2,or3 exhaust and you shoud find some info on it...Hope this helps! Have fun!

For the Newbies...

The linked thread below is the Mother of all exhaust threads. In that thread, there are pics too of where the mid-muffler is located.

Another route you can go down, which is what I did, is to have all 3 mufflers deleted/replaced with straight pipe (keeping stock tips) then also have your resonator & 3rd cat deleted/replaced. BUT you want to have some sort of resttriction in the exhaust or it's going to sound like straight "rice" aka "rasp" lol So I had a Magnaflow muffler put in right after the 3rd cat and it sounds amazing. Just play with it some. I did all of mine at different times just to try different things so trust me, you definitely do not want just ALL straight pipe lol

You will need to weld. It might be possible to get a slip that just fits over the OEM pipe and then you tighten down with clamps but I'd suggest not going that route.

It will not cost you very much to have a shop cut out the mid-muffler and weld in a pipe. Shouldn't cost you more than 40 dollars.

Depends what sound you want. Search it up on youtube for what sound you would like to have.

Wont make a power difference really if you keep the resonator vs taking it off. So personally I would keep it on and keep the rhaspy shat sound down. Thats what I did anyway but some people (for some reason) like the sound of their exhaust rattling to bits.

i would suggest try ing the mid muffler first removing both is like stage four there are two stages in between one being mid muffler devete with dynomax resinator (dont know part number sure you can find it in search) and the third being mid muffler delete with magnaflow resinator (? part#) or vise vesra i think both being deleted has rasp/rice i have just the mid delete and think its almost too much which is stage 1 but its perfect (i dont care what anyone says IMHO it dose sound similar to a G35) but some people dont think 1 or two is enough so its its your personal opinion! Stage 1 althe way for me!!!

^ im with you on removing just the mid muffler. If you want more sound then get highflow cats and a pair of mufflers. Leave the resonator

You probably don't need to shop around too much. It is a really simple thing to do and if you find anyone willing to do it for under 50 dollars might as well just get it done. Saves you the hassle of getting more input on the price when it likely won't make too much of a difference.

Well did the muffler delete and added a resonator in Miami fl and it cost me 150. I'm sure. I could have gotten it done cheaper if I shopped around.

mid muffler delete

thanks to this thread i removed my mid muffler and had it replace by straight pipe. did it at midas for 45$. they were willing to do the resonator and the mid muffler for 90 but i heard if i take the resonator of it will be too loud. after riding around i really like the sound. it is noticeable in 1st gear yet not too loud. just right
