Mid-muffler delete

Hey everybody, I'm new to the forums - I just got my '04 a couple weeks ago

I was wanting a bit more sound, and heard about deleting the mid muffler. I watched some videos on youtube but I'm still not sure. Does it make your car sound too ricey? I am trying to avoid that sound at all costs

Thanks, Mike

It does not make your car sound ricey at all, unless u take the resonator and mid-muffler out, it will sound very raspy. Just take the mid-muffler and it will sound very nice, kinda like a g35. You will gain a couple horsepower, not really enough 2 feel. And at lower rpm you can hear the exhaust drone a lil bit but i like it, and higher rpms u can only hear the engine But if u stand outside and floor the car its a really nice loud tone.

Thanks TL|GTX - thats exactly the sound I'm looking for. Don't you have to get a test pipe? If so, where did you get yours?

Stage 3 sounds nice, has a little more growl than a G35.

That was the first thing I did to my car plus that bastard weighs about 10-15 lbs. Gives a nice little growl to the tone but nothing too noticeable. Def not rice

This may sound like a dumb question, but where would I be able to buy a test pipe/straight pipe to replace the mid?

With just the mid muffler deleted it gives it a small growl at lower rpms, If you don´t have a CAI I suggest removing the intake silencer too, gives it a good sound. Its a good quick DIY before you get a CAI.

Where is the intake silencer? I have to admit I really do not know my way around the engine compartment yet. Just came from a Jeep you see, theres a big learning curve

You will hear it more with the CAI, just get an exhaust like the Comptech for the G35 sound.

I can speak from experience here, removing the mid muffler is nice. It has a little bit more growl to the exhaust without being overbearing.
Also, when you drive the car normally, it sounds just a little louder/deeper than stock, however when you give it some gas, there is a noticable growl coming from the exhaust.
I also feel like there is better air flow running through the exhaust now, much less restricted.
Being a married man, my wife doesn't like a "loud" exhaust, nor do I, however this is the best of both worlds. I can drive the car normal with her without driving her nuts, or I can drive the car like it was meant to be driven and have a nice exhaust note...!

I don't know I delete the mid muffler and resonator, then put the magnaflow resonator. I did this like 3 years ago and thought it sounded a little like G35 coupes. I don't know whatever, I like it.

Thats exactly what a mid muffler delete is. Cut the muffler out and weld in a straight pipe in its place.

I used a 2.5" str8 pipe with a coupling and a reducer. The inlet side of my muffler was 2.5" exit side was 2.25".It Sounds more like a porsche then a civic.I cant express how much I love it. I wish it was like 10% louder tho.

That's a pretty high price. Shop around for an actual muffler shop using sites like Yelp or Google. This mod should be nowhere above $75 with labor. Try the regional section of AZ to see any recommended shops in your area.

i just did it my self i wanted a nice pipe but i made one works just as good under $20 to build. i also put a cheap $25 spectra cone air filter from auto zone. i just took the top off my air box fits good. its that 10% louder i wanted. My gas mileage was 33 mpgs after a 60 mile trip on the high way at 74 mphs. i could only get 30 before on the high way.

If you want a sound that's closest to a VQ, stage 3 is the best option IMO. This consists of a mid muffler delete, and swapping the stock resonator with a Dynomax. Under $120 installed.
