Manual transmission modification

Anyone change the stock manual transmission for something more sportier?

A couple of suggestions if you'd like a sportier manual transmission (from my experience with other cars):
1) new shifter bushings
2) short throw shifter
3) swap out the gearset to something taller (4.10s)

My 6MT mods...
- Most important, GM synchromesh fluid... Look it up
- Comptech short shifter
- Skunk2 weighted shift knob
- CorSport shifter bushings
- Clutch slave mod
- Fresh Dot 3 clutch fluid
- Braided stainless clutch line

Tying it together, Innovative Motor mounts.

Shifting could be described as "snappy". snick snick. I couldn't be happier... hope my clutch lasts

Bump from the dead but what benefits do you get from the shifter bushings?

My shifter feels absolutely fantastic. Definately nothing like the stock junk. Anyone in the area is welcome to stop by and check it out for themselves.

Same here. And dont forget the zip-tie on the shifter lines i believe by n3o. All together, my shifting is tight and crisp.

hah forgot about that. Yeah, biggest improvement by far is Syncromesh, sucks its $17.xx per bottle and you need 2.6 quarts. Personally I wouldn't go with a short shifter, if you do everything else though you will be at around 100 bucks for everything. I myself run an S2000 CR shift knob. $40 brand new on egay.

^ Someone else posted this site for buying GM synchromesh for a lot cheaper. Buy 3 and it comes to about $11.50 per quart. Or by 5 and be good to go for 2 changes like I did and it's only $10.40 per quart.

How much clutch fluid do we need when replacing the clutch line? And is there a good DIY explaining how to bleed the clutch fluid and replace it?

Fwiw, I love my trans. I did all the mods avail. except the short shifter and I can feel the shift fork actually sliding the collar onto the different dog teeth and engaging different gears through the lever..its amazing for a fwd w/ cables.

Good stuff! I didn't know anything about those shifter bushings. They are now officially on the to do list.

To me, I wouldn't change the final drive ratio even if it was possible. I would change 4th gear to make it shorter. 4-6 are too tall.
