Know a good Short throw shifter, or shifter replacement?

so I’ve been getting experience in my 2004 stickshift, and I’ve been noticing that I’ve been having a hard time telling what gear I’m in and when in gear it has a bit too much play then I expect (although I’ve never driven a stick before so I wouldn’t know)
so does any one know a good after market shifter or should I buy a new factory one?
it could be the whole assembly or mybe if you know what peice is making it loose let me know what to replace

Hmmm, maybe because I've been driving a stick for over 40 years now, but I never have an issue figuring out what gear I'm in with my 2006. Question; when in gear, how much lateral play is in the stick?

Sounds like you need some new shifter linkage bushings but as Evil pointed out the comptech ss is very nice, worth the money and time. Short throws and its pretty smooth.

Horseshoe

Horse, if I have it in 4th I can move it side to side with about an inch or so, I don’t have a ruler on hand so I can’t give it in exact MM

Hmmm, doesn't sound too far out of line; I'll check mine on the way home today and report back.

I used the whole kit. Plus the check valve delete

As fox pointed out, shifter links are going out. I had the same issue when I had my Mazda. Tons of play and fixing the bushings on it fix it.

I would say the lateral movement of my shifter is maybe a hair less than an inch while in 4th gear.
