The xlr8 v1 has less ground clearance and retains the the third cat. But honestly the long tube j pipes is a marketing gimmick imo. The best gains are from equal length primaries on a j pipe that retains the third cat. EndLess RPM is making a j pipe that is very slammed car friendly you should put that j pipe into consideration also. I'm getting one as soon as it's released and selling my xlr8 v1

Our V1 J-Pipe is the older version that retains the third catalytic converter. Our V2 J-Pipe is newer and features better fitment, deletes the third cat for more power, and won't throw a check engine light. They are both made from T304 Stainless and are made here in the U.S.!

XLR8 v2 long tube J-pipe gained 10 hp and 9 lb-ft over the v1 and a test pipe in place of the 3rd cat.

What is the legallity of removing the cats? I can remove all but one? As long as I am running a cat and my exhaust emissions pass I am ok?

I live in Philadelphia PA by the way.

^technically; it is ILLEGAL to remove ANY catalytic converter.
Shops will not remove them unless you're using the car for "off road" purposes.

however; what you do on your own, without the state finding out is up to you.

and there are ways to trick the ECU so that no CEL's pop up, so you can pass.

BUTT, if your state does emissions by "sniffer" you'll fail without any cats.

Most people pass emissions only deleting the third cat, as you still have your precats in place for emissions control. If you delete all of them, you'll probably fail.. and if you delete your precats and leave the third cat, youll most likely fail although 02 spacers could prevent a CEL.

The smaller places Ive been to around here have always been pretty cool with mods as long as you clearly have a real cat. I had an 88' as a daily for five years. I swear they barely even test on cars that old and I dont think most of the guys at the shops really knew what the emissions looked like on an rx7 ha. I do remember my friend saying he had a hard time getting my old honda to pass. It had entirely aftermarket exhaust and I custom made the o2 sensor extension to stop CELs. Back then it wasnt readily available and you had to make your own basically.

Here in Texas the emission test is checking gas cap integrity and for engine codes. Since the 3rd cat isn't monitored, the ECU has no idea its missing so no codes. If you live where you have a visual inspection, you probably won't pass.

Place I get my inspection done knows about the J-pipe (they also do my oil changes) and since most of them have Hondas and mod them, they don't care what I do as long as I don't have any stored codes.
