I dont have any links but it seems all the newer jpipes have absulotely no ground clearance issues. I can only speak for the newer RV6 V3 jpipe since thats what I have installed on my 07 Type S 6mt and that system is tucked very high no clearance issues whatsoever. Infact I think all the surrounding parts of the vehicle sit lower than the jpipe itself. Basically, what im saying is if you were to bottom out your car its not possible to hit the jpipe as other OEM parts of the car sit lower than the RV6 V3. It was designed very nicely! The RV6 V3 does eliminate the 3rd cat but has no effect whatsoever on emissions when they plug into the car. Im very happy with my V3. Sound is basically unchanged with the exception of a tad more growl around 2500rpm and up only during hard acceleration otherwise normal driving its 100% stock sounding. Installation was incredibly simple just make sure you have a larger breaker bar with 1/2" 14mm socket. Anything smaller and you will not get the original bolts off they are just too tight.

Hope this helps...my vote goes to RV6 V3

James

Well, times have changed.
there are 2 new versions of jpipes that have stock like clearance.
Also, extending the primaries to get rid of the 3rd cat. Both of these Jpipes produce about the same horsepowerz.
about 10-15 horsies.

Check out the RV6 V3 Jpipe:

and

Check out the XLR8 V2 Jpipe:

Btw, RV6 v3 is on my car.

Just took these pictures for you guys to show clearance. This is the RV6 V3 installed on my 07 S 6mt. As you can see perfectly level and in some areas higher than the cars lowest point. Basically just like stock jpipe clearances.

Yup the car will absolutely not sound ricey and if there is anyone on this forum that hates ricey its me lol. Just look at the car in my avatar so you know im not into turning my car into a rice rocket. Like my original description says under normal driving the sound is almost completely like stock. During more spirited driving the car has a slightly throatier sound that is noticeable mainly 2500rpm and up. You can also hear it more with the windows down I noticed today. Just remember its only a very slight change you will be happy...trust me. I can only speak for the jpipe's that eliminate the 3rd cat.

Its funny you asked how 3rd gear felt. Just a little while ago I ran out to pick up the wife and myself dinner. South of my house the roads are wide open 50+ mph limits so I wanted to see how 3rd gear felt. I was going the speed limit of about 45-50 and dropped it into 3rd and put the pedal down. I was VERY impressed so much so that after I let off the throttle I said out loud "holy crap". I watched the needle fly passed 80mph then to 90mph in the blink of an eye..so it seemed anyway. And this is coming from a person who had a C6 Z06 that has over 500hp stock and only 3000lbs (which is downright scary as shit, but bad ass).

I would like to get a few videos like a 3rd gear run starting at 50mph. I have a HD camera, but need to think of a creative way to mount the it so you can see the speedo and tach as well.

When i first got my jpipe, 3rd gear pulls were the best thing since I found out about sex.
absolutely amazing.

I have PCD's and jpipe now, and wow.

I have a Acura tl 2008
Basically I want a lil more gains in hp or speed
My question is what jpipe should I purchase, I am worried out emissions out here in California. What is the best purchase for me without worrying about the emissions issue and smell that comes from the car.
Jus a reminder I have stock setup, with magna flow mufflers....should I even get a pipe and what else would I need if anything.

I know sometimes it's hard to be patient.

But if you ask the question 1 time in the proper place, 98% of the time you'll get some good info. It just may require a little patience. No need to ask the same thing 5 times in 5 threads. Honest.

Just sayin, I installed a DC cold air intake and the RV6 V3 j pipe on my 08 5AT type s a couple weeks ago....and as much as I hate to admit it, I dont FEEL any power gains. not noticeable to me just a little louder though.

And I consider myself to know how my car feels very well considering I bought it new as my first car.

it takes about 30HP to feel. the jpipe adds about 10hp-15hp depending on circumstances.

Its also hard to notice a change if you dont bench mark it.
dyno before and after.
or
race stock vs stock
then do it again jpipe vs stock.
with the jpipe, you'll def. pull a stock tl-s in 3rd gear.

I disagree with you here Justn....

the V3 jpipe eliminates the 3rd cat and in some states you might fail the test....

Also, when I was running PCD's and 3rd cat there was no smell...when I eliminated the 3rd cat the smell got ridiculous....

^i dont know about that Anil, a lot, and i mean A LOT of people purchased the rv6 V3 jpipe. no one has reported that they failed.
the primary cats are taking care of emissions.
there are no sensors on the 3rd cat. so no chances of having a CEL.

and duh, once you remove those primary cats the third cat is the only thing capturing the smell.
Remember our car is at the ULEV(ULTRA low emissions vehicle) rating.
a civic is at a LEV(low emissions vehicle) rating.

if we didnt have the third cat, then the TL would just be a LEV.
so by taking out the third cat, we're basically a LEV.

So a Civic technically has a better breathing exhaust?

you do make a very valid point....a lot of jpipes have been sold and none reported any problems....but only rv6 v3 jpipe eliminates 3rd cat and now the xlr8 v2....

well u know more about rv6 products than I do so, will listen to you on that LOL

You should look into our XLR8 V1 j-pipe. It does not eliminate any emissions components.

The RV6 V3 j-pipe as well as our XLR8 V2 j-pipe eliminate the third cat, which is not a monitored cat. In most states it should be fine since it will not trigger a CEL but not in CA. And in states where there is a visual inspection it will not pass either since a catalytic converter is deleted.
