I believe this is the intake silencer or resonator what ever you want to call it.

I already have the silencer/resonator off but I thought that other had just bypassed it with a strait pipe or something not completely removed all the other piping. I might be wrong though.

Do you mean putting a pipe where the intake resonator would be? So it would be a straight pipe intake?

Yes others have done this. IIRC they used 3" piping of some sort, probably with rubber connectors. Might be able to find rubber piping long enough, too.

I have seen a few guys that have added the pipe that goes down... one guy added a velocity stack, much like the comptech icebox's.

What are there noticeable gains when velocity stack is added? What about the Ait filter, if its removed what do we do with dust and debri going into the engine. Please school me on that if you know

you're not taking the stock air filter off. they're just removing the resonator so airflow is more fluid and less restricted.

Do NOT use these without an air filter for obvious reasons. I would bet that the persons car pictured has a filter in the stock location.

I'm not sure which brand they are using, but here is BPI's info

http://www.bpinitiatives.com/kits.php

results after installing BPI, yes the car is modded.

http://www.honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=2231492

More results.

I have no personal experience with them, but they seem to be quite useful. For less than $50 it's worth giving a try, IMHO.

Maybe I looked at it wrong but that graph shows a slight HP gain but a slight loss of torque?

Looks like mixed results with the torque. 1-3lb/ft maybe though. Nothing you'd feel. Although a person won't feel the ~5lb/ft gain of hp either.

yea for sure. I am sure I would get the same gains as the 300$ intake. I am looking for a velocity stack right now I don't know where to find one for cheap though

edit: didn't see those links up there

Does the intake resonator need to be cut out or do you just unbolt a few screws and pull it out? I'm thinking about doing the velocity stack mod but I don't want to have to cut my stock intake just in case I need to put it back later

I had a thought for a cheap velocity stack, how about a 4 inch subwoofer port, it is basically the same design.

THe gains from a velocity stack are next to nothing so yes it will work just as well!

I know I'll get flack for this but... When removing the resonator how does the sound compare to a SRI? I have an auto tls so I'm realistic with the car's potential and would like to at least make the car a bit more fun to drive (intake sound).

So in short- is there a noticeable sound difference between removing the stock resonator VS installing a SRI? Which sounds more aggressive? I'm sure the SRI would, but i figured I'd ask. I'm still a relatively new Acura owner.

Thank you in advance for the info!

** edit- nevermind I checked out a few other past threads and will probably just go the SRI route.

I hope you mean CAI and not SRI. Installing a short ram intake will for sure decrease performance sucking in all that hot engine bay air. What I did by just removing the resonator should give me some nice sound which is all I'm looking for

Roger where is that bent up pipe going? Looking at that picture with a velocity stack and then yours I am not sure where that pipe and going, why is it going there compared to how the velocity stack picture pipe is siting there, and why did you opt for that?

All I did was remove the resonator and replace it with a strait pipe. The bent pipe your referring to is OEM. It wraps around a up it the area infront of the battery which is the OEM "cold air box"

Ah, I see what you did. I think I'm going to do the same thing, how big and how long of a pipe did you have to buy? Do you notice better MPG? How is the sound? I want a quiet car with better MPG. If it's just a little sound increase I can deal with that.

I havent had a chance to drive it yet still working on other things. I did this mod only for a bit more sound. HP & MPH gains are generally going to be minimal I really cant see you noticing a difference at all.

Just took mine out today, took me only about an hour (including 20 min joy ride). It sounds a lot better, its not CAI but you can tell the difference. Also I think that the throttle response is a little better

I did. It might be a lot more difficult without bumper removal because you do have to yank it kind of hard to get it out.
The bumper removal takes like 10 min if even that

Don't you mean more like a "warm" air intake. The pipe that returns back up sits right between the headlight and battery. And there is an additional cover that kinda hides the end of the piping which is removable. I looked at that a thousand times and to me it just doesn't seem like it's pulling in cold air hence why I said warm air. I think if you were to just end it with a velocity stack right down by the foglight area you'd get a better cold air charge.
