Here is an another method. Radio Shack sells Infrared Thermometers for $50.

"Aim this non-contact infrared thermometer at a heat source, press the button and read your measurement on the large LCD screen! Safely measure surface temperatures of hot, hazardous or difficult-to-reach objects, without touching them."

The motor is highly tuned (aka, delicate). As such, excessive heat will kill the power/pep.

When my car was new (before any mods), I could notice the pep was gone on hot Texas summer days. The loss of pep was most noticable when punching it to merge into traffic.

Time for an update....

Here is my setup
-------------------------
AEM CAI (with custom insulation to make it even more "cold")
Bypassed coolant going to throttle body (to make it even more "cold")
Outlaw Engineering Thermoblock Spacers (to make it even more "cold" )

Because we have been having cold weather lately, I can say with authority that my setup WORKS !!!!

I live in Houston, Texas. It gets plenty hot here to destroy the output of the J32 engine (in oem trim). When my TL was stock, I learned the hard way how the engine becomes anemic when heat-soaked. This is why I became so serious about keeping my engine as cool as possible.

After driving the car thru the last few cold fronts in the past couple weeks (temps in 40's), I have noticed NO power increase. Wait !! This is a positive thing !!! Because *if* I had felt a power boost in the cooler weather, this would imply that I was losing power in the Texas heat. Therefore, I can say that my setup WORKS 100% in preserving the full power output in hot weather.

Now for argument sake, I am not imagining this. I also have a 2002 TL-S (bone stock). The first day that we had temps in the 50's, I EASILY felt a power boost in that car (same J32 engine).
