Installed Comptech SS today
The throws are awesome now. I can't believe the difference that little piece made. It feels a lot tighter going into gear. I'm not sure if it is supposed to be like that, but I like it. I took less than 2 hours with the help of jmbnova's excellent write up. It was well worth the $60 spent for the SS. I recommend it to all 6MT drivers!
thanks for your write up jmbnova!

It only took an hour to install?
From a previous write up I read from a while back it looked pretty tough to do... so I never bothered. I'd like to but for some reason I'm scarred to take the console apart...

The SS doesn't shorten the spacing between gears.
It "lengthens" the throw arm, which means it takes less movement of the shifter to move the shift mechanism.
With a shorter throw means "more tightness" because it takes more effort. It's like a lever (the simplest machine). If you make the lever arm shorter, it takes more effort to raise the rock, but the less travel.
For those with the SS... There are 3 complements you MUST install with it:
- Skunk2 weighted shift knob. This helps with the effort a bit.
- Aluminum shifter bushings, these take the slop out of hard shifting.
- GM Synchromesh or Specialty Formulations MTL-P fluid.
My shifts are like those of an indy car now.

Who sells this is what I am asking
Thanks
The GM Synchromesh you can get at your local GM dealers part department, or you can get Pennzoil Synchromesh from pepboys, their both the same thing and GM makes the synchromesh for Pennzoil.
