inspection question about emission test
#2
depends on what state= some are easy some are tight
in general- you can do what you want AFTER the last cat- but all the cats must be in place and working to pass
You can do headers- some states require proof of CARB certification on the part, you can change cats- but removed...who are you trying to kid?
They plug a code reader and sometimes a sophisticated scanner to see whats really going on with your cars running condition while its being tested
Also note- the car computer knows if you disconnected the baterry or otherwise reset the ECU to clear a check engine light- and will tell the smog machine its not ready to be tested! for a few weeks!!

Why would you think a modern car with no catalytic converters would pass an emissions test?

Not even close. Don't waste your time trying. 3rd cat delete only, yes, you can pass. Precats, no way.
In some states if they see that you've removed the convertors, they can take your car. This is one reason why, even on my old Buick, I have the factory style heat shields welded to my test pipe to make it look like a cat.

Let this be a lesson to all- Keep you stock parts in a box in the gargage- so you can swap them on as needed

then sell them for the cash!
but other states with actual smog/vehicle inspections....make room on a shelf for that box~

NO.....without a catalytic converter you will not pass your smog check. However, if you bought your car new then you dont have to pass a smog check in the first five years ( in cali). I have FULL ATLP setup and I kept my catalytic converter for later on. Check up on it and see what your state requires.

have you checked with the local inspection station- the rest of us are guessing your state law
