INJEN CAI for 04-05 TL 6MT

Hello all,

I'd just like to let you all know that I was the test car for the 6MT for the CAI. I spent all day at Injen in Pomona, CA yesterday while they test fitted and gave me a free intake. I will have to get some pictures taken later today and upload them for all of you. So for all you guys/gals out there looking for an intake well it will be available soon. The contact I spoke to and got hooked up by was Duy pronounced (Doo-Wey). Well hope this helps. Please leave rep points.

The auto version has been on the market since a couple of months after the TL was released.

I thought it was one version for both. What is the difference?

I believe the mass airflow sensor is in a different place for the AT versus the MT....The MT needs a longer pipe from the header area.

This is very interesting because there are already people w/ 6MT's that have the Injen CAI. One of them is "HONDAFANS". I'm just not understanding.

GoBig, I just bought my 05 TL 6MT in Nov. I had contacted Injen and AEM about intakes for the 6MT however they said they were working on it. Injen told me that they needed a test car for the firment process and to ensure they could market to the rest of enthuisiats. Here are the emails from Duy at Injen.

Subject: Re: 2005 TL Test Fit for CAI
The process usually only takes a full day- We're just test fitting our
system we currently have out to make sure there are no fitting issues. There
will be an inspection form for you to fill out and sign off on before we
proceed with your car. You will get an intake for the trade. Please let me
know if you are still interested and I will schedule you in.

Okay. So they were just making sure that what they do have currently our fits properly. Do you know if they will be making any changes to the existing CAI?
Thanks.

Ok, this make sense now. I have had my intake on since I bought my car in August, and it is a 6MT. I had no problem installing it or have had any problems with it so far.

But, why would they wait this long to "test fit" it??

I have no idea why they would have waited so long. I always was skeptical about aftermarket products being the right ones and the right fit for the appropriate application. Usually a AT is different then a MT and vice versa. I had asked Injen if they were going to make one for the 6MT only or if the current one out would work. They said that the information the dealer provided them was that the body and under the hood were pretty much identical, however Injen being a reperable company wanted to make sure for themselves before actually stating so to the public so that there were no problems.

I just happened to be the lucky guy who got the intake for free. FREE is the best. One less thing I have to spend money on...ya know!!!!

Ok guys, TL-Crazie-05 asked that I put up pics of the cutom fit CAI that Injen made for his car. Per my sources, based on the usual time fram between initial fabrication and production of a CAI, this should be widely available within a matter of only a couple of weeks. Here ya go:

Thanks VTEC-Happiness. I really appreciate you hosting my pics. As for everyones questions concerning the AT/6MT fitment and intake availability I'd tell you to call Duy at Injen at the number above in the previous post and he can get the intake out to you. Hope this helps out.

How accessible is the filter itself on the CAI?

I'm going to have to take this into consideration before buying as I perform my own maintenance...

You can get to it by removing the fender lining in the driver's side wheel well.

Do you have to reset the ECU? Does Injen recommend that?

Can't see a need to...isn't our ECU one that adjusts itself?

The difference is certianly notable, but not extreme at all. Inside you will hear a bit more of a growl, outside is the same just amplified. You will also hear a little bit of a whine at half throttle as the CAI sucks in the air.

Its really not bad...you just need to pop out two clips and pull back the lining...you can remove your wheel for easier access if you are so inclined.

IMO the black finish looks better, but I might be a little partial.

I'm just wondering if the CAI will get wet or suck water to the engine when the car is in the car wash or in the rain?

i've go the black powder coated unit. sounds great and looks discrete in the engine bay. i've gone through 3 car washes already (try to avoid just the high pressure jet washes just in case) and no problems....

also, didn't have to take the front fender off....
