hydrolockin

in fear of hydro-lockin my engine i was curious as to if it was worth the effort to buy the AEM air bypass valve if it would even fit. Or do i just need to stop playin it the water?

I live in vegas. It does not rain much, but when it rains it floods. So when it not raining I use CAI, when it rains I put a short ram in. The short ram is a junk, but I only need a once every couple months. Hydo locking is not to mess around with.

I have ran these things (AEM) and (INJEN) in driving pouring rain at 75mph for LONG lengths of time...I am talking hours. Dude...you have nothing to worry about unless you drive though water that is MAJORLY high in a stupid way. I mean...there is even a HUGE water buildup on my way home from work when it rains and sometimes I am forced to have my wheels in it a bit....not a problem. As for the bypass...I would say if you have to put a bypass in it...I wouldnt even mess with the mod...wasting your time then. Just stay OEM. But honestly...I just dont see this as a problem. Only dude I ever heard of hydrolocking about begged for it to happen by driving though DEEP water....which makes no sense.

truthfully in order to hydrolock on the 05 tl, you have to drive through water at least 10-12" high and in that case you would be flooding your whole car so I wouldnt worry. These filters only hydrolock if they are submerged in water, but when water gets on them from lets say rain, they dont have the ability to suck it up to do harm to your engine!

Injen Heat Shiled

I see that Injen sells a heat shield for their filter that looks like I might also help keep water off the filter in the rain. Anyone install one of these with their CAI?

so true and a little common sense will help you stop worrying....the 1st question is..do you attempt to go thru standing water that comes up above your door sill?...then don't get one.....do you take your car thru rivers?....then don't get one.........personallly I live in MA and have gone thru torrential rain, blinding snow and have never had any of my vehicles hydrolock......2000 SI, 2002 RSX-S, 2003 Element EX, 2005 TL......
