How to maximize your miles per gallon
How to maximize your miles per gallon
I just wanted to know for those with 20" rims how many miles do you get per tank. im getting roughly 250 a tank and Currently running 20x8.5 in the front 20x10 in the back. Any ideas how i could get more miles? my pockets getting empty paying $45 bucks a gallon

I pay $49 to fill up with stockies... and that is once a week... averaging 15-17mpg city... I'd say downsize on the rims kid... I did however jump from 14mpg average prior to a CAI install
loose the spare tire and get rid of any other unessary weight. Also drive easy, don't push the gas like boy racer, if you are near 25-30K, 50-60 miles, change the air filter, and change the air filter if it hasn't been changed at all if over 30K. Lastly, make sure the air pressure is right in the tires
The two most important things (beyond being easy on the pedal) that you can do is keep air pressure high and keep weight low.
I would estimate tire pressure could gain you approx 2 mpg if you pumped them up to 35 psi and they had been at 30 psi. This is just an example that I pulled out of my "hat" to give you a feel for what could be expected.
Regarding weight reduction, my TL Diet has been "kicking butt" in the mpg department.
I will give you some numbers below. But first, please keep in mind that these mpg figures does include one or more WOT blast from 60 to 100 mph DAILY. I often slam on the brakes too at 100 mph to pull it down to 70 mph, and this often feels like 1 G force when I do it.
So, more wasted gas.
I commute in the heart of Houston. So, my daily commute consist of massive traffic jams mixed with some nice "race track" sections (those 100 mph bursts)
.
Below, I include extra data besides MPG because MPG data is MEANINGLESS without knowing the average MPH and time duration. The TL can get 34 MPG Freeway and 18 MPG City, which is a HUGE spread between the two.
The numbers below are from MID, not manual data collection.
Avg MPH = 30
Avg MPG = 26
Hours = 3 hrs 30 min
Avg MPH = 36
Avg MPG = 28
Hours = 9 hrs 30 min
Instant Readout
Avg MPH = 68
Avg MPG = 35
Hours = 10 minutes

Looking over my previous post, I realize that I didn't make my main point very clear.
Since my latest radical weight-reduction mods, it seems that my 2006 TL never drops below 26 MPG. No matter how bad traffic gets (and it has been terrible with school recently starting), and no matter how much I hot-foot the throttle (not too often with that terrible traffic I mentioned), the MID never drops below 26 MPG.
