how does a resonator break in, and what's actually breaking in? the color inside? the carbon build up? and whats expected after a resonator breaks in, if theres such thing? the car will sound different or something?

only thing thats gonna happen is the heat will bake the metal a bit, color will change and that's about it...NOTHING IS GOING TO CHANGE except for rust over the years

I've experienced slight tonal changes. Huge difference? No. But it was noticeable. Obviously not on every car but the subtleties were there.

Isn't this the same as the break in period for springs? None at all?

i have gone through so much exhaust work, i wish i could undo 90% of it...did i ever, ever see any diff from resonators with so called break in? None whatsoever. my car sounds the same everyday, but do i hear any difference sometimes? yes, bcs my ears are exposed to other noises..... the only difference would be if after a while, there's so much carbon build up that the inside dimensions of the resonator change...and i dont think that's gonna happen in ur car's lifetime unless you start filling ur gas tank with oil instead.

springs breaking in depends on the manufacturers...some will make them so they settle in after installation, where as some others will treat them to the point where there's no difference. this depends

so to the OP...if you asked this bcs ur wondering whether the sound will change, bcs u might not like it now, or you like it and afraid of losing it...it aint gonna change

Nice to have you back! Agreed 100%. There's nothing to break in. It's just a can with some baffles and maybe steel wool.

Never heard of a resonator breaking in. Usually I notice the results immediately.

I lost count of the number of exhaust installs I've done (well over 500) and I agree there is not going to be much noticeable difference from the first time versus the 100th time when starting the car. There have been a few cases though, where there was a difference. Due to a break in? Not likely in the sense that the actual muffler will change, but I have noticed differences.

were not saying a resonator wont change sound....we're saying that once u install a resonator, the sound u hear after u install it, is the sound u will hear weeks, months, years to follow...we're saying that, theres nothing to break in a resonator over time.

The exhaust pitch SHOULD change unless they did not install it or the resonator you got was too small to make a difference. If you got one the size of the stock cat you wont notice a big sound change.

Well one thing for sure, there is no common answer here.

When I did my first exhaust and said it wasn't to my liking, people said it would change. It didn't and I ended up making changes. I guess only time will tell for the OP.

Guys, it's your perception that changes over time, not the exhuast.

When I get into the GN it seems way too loud. After a day it seems normal. When I get back into the TL I literally can't hear it run. Then after a few days it sounds like a normal stock TL. It's all perception. You get used to it over time.

Agree 100%, it's all perception. Couldn't have said it any better (Considering I don't have a 600hp GN)
