Has Anyone Break 14's Yet???

Seems to me that many of our members has ran our TL in a 1/4 mile run but seems to have a problem breaking the 14's which many magazine has quoted our TL to run (5AT 14.6/6MT 14.3).

So has anyone out there hit 14's Stock Set-up??

there was someone with 6MT who hit 14.2... i think it's rather impossible to hit 14 flat stock. but the TL featured in honda tuning mag a few months ago (cai, comptech exhaust, grounding kit) might be able to hit 14 flat, provided that the condition's optimal & w/ a good driver.

there was even a member with 5AT who couldn't break 15.

The TL race car that finished 3rd behind two Porsches in an endurance race probably could do 13s. It is essentially very close to stock except for the diet plan it was put on (gutted interior, etc.) Weighed in at approx 2900 lbs if I remember correctly.

Based on the et's posted by members, I'm not sure they have experience hitting the track on a regular basis, so it's not known whether they maxed out their combo.

The 5AT guys in particular might have room to improve, I wonder if they tried to foot-stall up the revs at the line and work on those short times.

I'll hit the track soon.

My other car runs low 10's.

It also had no cats (new downpipe) , light-weight pulleys, ported heads, and ECU work. I think it could get into the 13's.

Based on the Porsches it was following, that track-prep TL might even be a low 13 second car. Most of those Porsches run low 13's stock.

Well if the 5AT 3G TL I saw at Etown today is any indicator, I'd say there's a snowball's chance in Hell of a stock 5AT running in the 14s at all. The one I saw ran pretty consistent 15.7-15.8s with 89mph traps.

But since most of the cars there seemed to be a bit slower than the last time I was there, I'd say that the 5AT TL may be a low 15-second car under good conditions. (BTW: I have pics if anyone wants to host them. )

It was Motor Trend and they posted a time of 14.78 @ 94mph for the 5AT. ....just waiting to see some track times (other than the 15.7 I witnessed) from non-publishing sources though.

so... you're saying the springs and the intake cut down your 1/4 mile time by .5 sec? what tires are you running on?

That was me-14.22 @99mph. Think I can get under 14 sec's with ideal situation. Nitto drags cut my 60' time dramatically! NOS(75 shot) will be installed before next trip to Gainesville-I fully expect mid-high 13's @ 105 or so.

the weather had an effect on it. but i believe that the springs did drop the time a little bit because of the reduced squat of the car when launching.

intake helped a little. with the new times and tires...the car is more grippy, so that lowered it a little compared the the stock EL42s where i just peeled out for the whole 60ft.

im running the Hankook H405...theyre extremely nice tires for their price. not exactly the "all-season" they said it was though. it sucks in the snow, but good in the rain and dry.

Those are SAE-standardized numbers, not real life. 99.9% of the time, you will run slower than those published numbers.

That's why I laugh when people hear my quarter-mile ET and compare it to a published standardized number and say I'm slower. Not to mention, they don't even know my trap speed.

You can't compare a magazine number to a real life time. Just isn't fair.

In my experience, folks usually run a little better than magazine testing actually.

PA is just giving sad excuses, 'cause his car ran 15+ stock, and he know my 6MT will be faster than his modded TL-S...

The "folks" around your area must be real good drivers. As far as 3G TL 5AT is concerned, though, no one has yet to come close to the published times.

I know some magazines actually post real figures. But I'm talking about magazines that publish standardized numbers, such as Motor Trend.

I know of only one member on the board who could achieve the published number of 14.7 ET stock.

I know you're a car guy and a drag racer. I respect that. But around here, I see a lot of stock LS1's running high 13's to low 14's.

Anyway, bottom line is that I've stopped paying attention to and relying on published times, except for basic reference.

In 100% stock form I ran consistant 14.80's in Portland, OR. in my 6MT with the HPT. Nothing to brag about. I wish I didn't care about my tread life back then and made some adjustments to lower my 60' since I was trapping high 96mph to mid 97mph.

PIR isn't a very high elevation but I couldn't give you specs on that.

One of car magazines posted 14.2@99mph I think.

Some guy on the forum posted 103mph trap speeds with CAI and catback, I think that's awesome. I don't much car what the car ET's but I think it will go very low 14''s stock. If I was not moving this Friday I would try the track this week and see if I'm right or way off.
