First mod

Hey there fellow TL owners,
I'm looking to do my first performance mod to my TL and was wondering what you guys would recommend as a first mod. I was thinking an exhaust system & headers or something... Just really not sure where to begin
Thanks for your help

CAI, J-pipe, Pulley, Rear Sway Bar are all great starter mods.

Whatever you choose you can check out our website for pricing and more options:

I'd say j-pipe/exhaust or suspension would be my top picks for a first mod. suspension is obviously more expensive than a jpipe (if you get good coils).

Thanks a lot guys/gals
At least now i have a starting point. One last question which one made the biggest difference in terms of performance when you guys started moding your TL's ?

jpipe, most bang for your buck.

pre cat deletes are great too, but they have drawbacks that some people don't like. rasp, smell. they add a lot of oooomph tho, and i love mine. smell doesn't bother me and i'm welding in a resonator to my exhaust to combat the rasp associated with them.

i would do jpipe and catback exhaust first if it were me. good luck and have fun.

Yea I'm gonna agree with sharksbreath and say jpipe first. PCD's are likely more power but they're a more aggressive mod (have to deal with rasp+smell). I wouldn't do them first.

That said, when you say performance do you mean straight up power? Because for me, handling ranks pretty high up there in performance. A good set of coilovers is likely to make you have a LOT more fun driving every day (and lowered cars look better too. performance and asthetics!)

For a cheap, basic mod thats easy to do yourself though, I wish I did j-pipe first. I'm remedying that situation this weekend though

free mod: bypass throttle body coolant. doesnt add power but lets you keep your intake air cooler after engine heats up which keeps power lost after driving for a minute.

run royal purple oil. it not only frees up about 3 hp but it really smooths out the acceleration. you also can run it until your car says oil life 0-5%

that's cause the mid in our TLs are programmed for conventional oil, not synthetic. synthetics can last a good 7500-15000 miles. the MID usually displays the reading <5% usually around ~5k miles

OP, it honestly depends on your budget...I took my time with modding mine...about 2.5 years to be exact. One or 2 things at a time. Brief avg price breakdown:

Rear Sway bar: $120 (everyone likes Progress, I got the type S RSB for $20 from a buddy though)
Springs: $200ish...coils are about $1000-1400, depends on make
Jpipe: $400-450
Cat-back exhaust: I got the ATLP base with resonator for about $1200
AEM V2 intake (technically for the Accord): $280

My honest opinion is for every mod you do, do the research first. That would include talking to fellow members about their experience, checking out the local laws (emissions), see if there are youtube videos you can find, etc. Makes it easier & much cheaper for you in the long run...you find the mods you really want, and are happy the first time.

Good luck and happy modding!

bang fo yo buck approach

Keep an eye out for "group buys" on this site. It’s where a vender will discount a product if a group of Aziners purchase a item. XLR8 puts up good ones. Get started by taking advantage of the current one. Fallow this link for the current one which is a Cold Air Intake.
